Question about updating Komplete

Post by ComposerLDG » Tue Feb 26, 2019 4:42 am

Hi all,

I currently work with Komplete 10 on an external SSD. Plenty of room left on that drive. I'm thinking of updating to Komplete 12 to get the new Reaktor player, additional libraries and plugins, etc. My question is, does the 12 installation overwrite 10? Or is it another installation? Obviously I want to make sure that I don't impact any projects that I already have.

Thanks!

It shouldn't. For example, if you update from say kontakt 3 to kontakt 5, you'll have both programs. The difference really is if you go from say 5.0 to 5.11 or something, because instead of being a whole new program it's an addendum or update
and usually won't let you roll back to 5.0 and you have to delete and install just the 5.0. that's when programs say that you have the latest update. it's like upgrade vs update I suppose. upgrades usually cost money whilst updates usually don't.

Thanks, Len, that's what I was kind of figuring. I've been thinking of Komplete 12 for a while now.

I agree with Len with the following caveat about Native Instruments stuff:

Komplete and Komplete Ultimate are delivered by download now.

Sometimes they change whats in the updated bundles - like they dropped a couple things from KU11 vs KU8. Since in my case I had bought KU8 - they let me download those additional things when I was reinstalling my libraries on a certain drive.

That's usually where the headaches happen when you have to reinstall or change the drive where you keep stuff.

Thanks for that info, Andy. I'll definitely keep that in mind.

Loren,

Do you use NI's Native Access program? I believe when you upgrade you will be able to select the new products under "not installed". I could be mistaken but I think that's how it works, incidentally if you need to change software locations it will handle that as well.

Actually, you're right, I forgot about Native Access!

Incidentally, I did the upgrade from 10 to 12 and it went off without a hitch. Well worth the upgrade price considering I now have Una Corda piano, a bunch of expansions, new effects, Kontakt 6, and Reaktor 6. Native Access managed the upgrade perfectly.
