BLUES/ROCK SONGS with Male Vocals are needed for an up-to $200, NON-Exclusive, Direct-to-Producer placement in an Independent Feature Film. They’re on the hunt for an Uptempo Song that could work as a replacement for “Life To Fix” which is currently temped into this Film.

This Film's Producer is NOT looking for clones or soundalikes! Similar tempo, style, and overall vibe? Yes. Clones? No!

Quoting the Film's Producer: “We love the cool guitar riffs, the male vocals, and the general idea of the lyrics ("I have one life to live...").

Give them rockin’ songs that have all the appeal of the reference above, with outstanding melodies and a great hook-filled chorus. Your song should lean a bit more toward the Blues-y side of Rock and should have solid musicianship and high production value.

Just a thought: Considering they've already temped-in the ref song, you might want to pay attention to its tempo, the beat, and that cool guitar riff the film's producer mentioned. Those things might be the "special sauce!"

The gang vocals might be something that adds to the appeal as well.

Hmmm - not an expert on this style or genre, so with that in mind:
1) if it's a 'replacement' track kind of listing - yours sounds very close to the reference track vibe; but, too close? That'll be up to the Screener's job of knowing what the Client will like.
2) when the drum fills come in at the Outro - they seem too low in the mix, and not part of 'the band' presence... then, that makes me wonder if they need to come up in the overall track - say 2 db?
3) pardon me if I sound like The Grammar Police (I'm not an English major) ... but it did stick out to me that "have swam..." would sound better, and possibly be more correct as "have swum..."

Maybe in Rock music - it aint be a matter.

Thanks! I brought the drums and claps out in the whole track.. so the rhythm doesn't get lost in the mix.
The track may sound similar but I didn't steal notes.. only concepts.
You are absolutely right about the grammar so I went back and fixed (re-sang) it a few minutes ago LOL.

Well - I don't know that I rock... but I do roll... but more with Country/Bluegrass/Americana/Irish Trad... you know: all that acoustic instrument stuff.

you're definitely showing the musicianship and slick production value as always, I'm just hearing yours as well into the ROCK side of the Blues-Rock spectrum and a little bit further away from the Blues-y side they say they are looking for.

I'm not sure if that's something that you can (or should) tweak?

A/B listen - hear the difference in production - reference track has a loose bluesy feel and while it does sound well produced it doesnt have the same bright-n-shiny quality as yours.

is there a way you can work in some percussion like tambs and shakers, even a little?

I guess what I'm trying to say is it needs a little more of that Front Porch vibe and a little less Arena Rock vibe

Hey Dan - I read Jay's comment with regards to leaning more Blues; then listened to the first few seconds of your track again...
do you play Blues harmonica?! Some added riffs of that in places might be just the thing? I could hear it working.
Might help add a touch of 'organic' to what you've got going. I'm thinking of something that has a sort of train-beat feel to it, to go with the kick drum cadence.

Spot on about... "needs a little more of that Front Porch vibe and a little less Arena Rock vibe". That's why I like Peter's train beat idea! Makes it a little less arena rock and maybe more front porch. I uploaded the new train beat mix.

Can't accomplish the juice harp idea but I wish I could, a very good idea it is though! The train beat idea is the the only one I'm capable of right now and I like it.. Thanks Peter!

It doesn't make it any more blues-y but it makes the beat a little more solid. And the Producer likes the beat in the temp song according to the listing.

Ok Danny, now it is time for my two cents---

First, I listened to the reference track...Man oh man, I was blown away by that track, that is a pretty high bar to go after. I was thinking to myself, "I don't know if he is going to be able to make that high of a bar"...
OK, then I listened to your track, frankly, I was as blown away by it as I was by the reference track, great bit of writing and a great bit of playing, I think you hit the bar quite well.

So, I agree with Jay, I think a little Tamborine here and there would sound great on this track, so lock that in if you can.
I do think the claps are WAY too out front, they seem to take over the mix a little too much for me. I would pull them back quite a bit (maybe somewhere in the 3 to 6 db range).
I really cannot say much more I would change. I love the feel and the production, you have made an excellent track there. I hope it will net you a placement in the end.
