Volume Loud Enough?

Post by Merryband1 » Mon Apr 15, 2019 12:58 pm

Hi, TAXI Peeps!

Peter Rahill -- Funsongs -- was kind enough to give my track another listen, and the only thing he thought might make it not pass a screener was the volume. What do you think? Should I up the dB, and if so, by how much? I don't want it to clip and run into distortion range. (Distortion is great for metal guitars, but this is a classical! ;) )
Thanks,
Merry

Hi Merry,

Yes..it is too quiet... if you have a limiter... crank it up!
Very hard to say how much without having the track on my system.

Still - I'd add - use another minimal instrument track and do an A/B comparison - maybe find one on the Forwards board.
Make yours nearly match, and you should be good-to-go.

Thanks for the suggestions, Peter and Tim! And thank you for making my day, Danny!
I did discover I have Ozone 7 Elements available, so I used their setting and upped the volume to 4. It did show in the red some, but not past the 8, and it didn't ciip. Here's the updated track.

I thought the first one was better. It's like the various concentrations of fragrance, occasionally perfume oil is appropriate, sometimes eau de toilette is just more appropriate and appeasing, you enjoy every note while not being overpowered, and of course cologne and aftershave are too fleeting and underwhelming.

*Merry tears her hair out at the conflicting opinions and joins Charlie Brown in yelling "Aaaaaaaaargh!"*

Maybe I should go back and dial it back to a 3? I thought 5 was too loud, so I made it a 4. Maybe it's the limiter affecting the nuances? Thanks, Len & Danny! Maybe change the limiter setting or eliminate it altogether? (It's the first time I've actually used the Ozone, so I was winging it.)

Re: Volume Loud Enough? One More Time No Limiter

Post by Merryband1 » Tue Apr 16, 2019 11:08 am

Okay, doubled the track for increased volume and removed the limiter. I got it to within 0.2 of clipping, so it should be loud enough. Without the limiter, I'm hoping it didn't affect the nuances.
I really appreciate all the input, guys! You're the best!

Let me put it this way. It's in the ballpark for the volume you'd expect and everything sounds great.
Leave this one now.
All that's left is the music, I'm just here to compliment the smooth guitar playing.
You have been practicing, right?
