Short article about music copyrights

Post by jaywilliams » Sat Mar 30, 2019 11:31 am

Hi guys, spotted this today.

Good concise overview of copyrights as they relate to music production.

Worth a read in my opinion (especially for us newbies!).

Jay, thanks for posting this. It confirmed what my knowledge about these issues is thus far. Also shows that there possibly is not much point in "officially" copyrighting anything as long as proof of priority is easy for you. Tom

There's so much to this business to keep track of!

I'm so glad I went to Rally bc even though I didn't absorb but a small fraction of the information available, some of those small fractions were helpful.

For example, there was a session run by 2 label owners who clearly weren't stressing the details - they register copyrights for their songs in batches (after they've been released), and as near as I could tell they pretty much don't bother with meta-data at all.

Not sure if that's the "right way" or the "wrong way" to do it, but these guys are clearly successful at what they are doing, so I figure if that's good enough for them it's good enough for me.

Your mileage may vary, of course.

This was Barry DeVorzon's new enterprise mentioned on last monday's TAXI TV episode. Apparently it protects your copyright for $3.95/song.
