Help needed.. Got asked to make an album!

Post by ResonantTone » Mon May 13, 2019 1:29 pm

Hey all!

Was hoping you guys could give me some direction on this. An ongoing conversation with a library has culminated in them asking me for an album's worth of work! I'm pretty stoked to say the least... but on the other hand, I wanna make sure I do this right and that I don't make any rookie mistakes.

Any words of advice or helpful tips for those that have done this type of project in the past? Anything special I should know or generally accepted guidelines for this sort of thing?

Thank you in advance!

Andrew

Be realistic about how long it will take you. Make sure you know exactly what they want as far as alt mixes, stems etc. Do they want it "mastered" or should you leave them room to do that? And if so how much room? Do they want stems run through your master chain?

Those are a few things off the top of my head.

You're stuff is great, you got this!

And congrats!

Congrats! That's fantastic!

Make sure you understand exactly what specs they want - sample rate, bit depth etc.

Also, all the alt mixes, stems etc can take quite a while to prepare if you haven't done them before, so make sure you add that into how long you think you will take

Make the last track on the album about a car chase, and throw in some gratuitous use of midgets as well.

AM JEST KEEDING!

Congrats on the upcoming deal. Now knock it out of the park! ;)

Congratulations Andrew!

I just finished a bunch of tracks for a library and was asked to change the key of several
tracks...so that they will not sound as similar.

My 1 cent,
Tim

I was able to make 2 tracks per week when I made an album, just in spare time around work, kids, family etc.

So set yourself a realistic but challenging schedule.

Commit to the timescale with the Library..its amazing how much you can get done when the pressure is on.

Build time into this schedule to make 2 extra s tracks.

Use the first track as a template.

Thanks Kylie! The library was pretty great with getting me all the info about this stuff up front, so I think I'm in a good spot for this aspect of it.

When they get back to me with a confused email, I'll make sure to tell them it was all your idea, Patrick. :)

Congrats Andrew!
Appreciate that Cass! It's easy to be courteous and professional when I get to rub shoulders with others that portray the same, such as yourself!

Sounds like we are in a similar spot with family/kids! I can definitely see how having that pressure is motivating.
I'm taking your advice as gold. Thank you sir!

That's great Andrew! You deserve it. Congrats and hopefully in the future you'll be posting about all the places your music is being placed!

I think most points have been covered by earlier postings so my only addition (although obvious :D ) is to make sure your tempos are different from one track to another, even if just by a few bpm. And paraphrasing someones earlier post - once you have a deadline and the heat is on it's amazing how creative you can and will get! Best of luck with it! John
