Sounds great, but also like a lot of work. So make sure the deal is worth it, and that the library has some credentials to back up the request with. Not saying that it is, but it can be a mistake to feed lots of material into a fresh library (that may not have many contacts, or rely on a passive website) without any type of advance, reversion clause, on exclusive terms.

Hey Andrew, curious to know what that exactly means in the case of instrumentals, that will be used in film/TV I suppose? Does that mean that they expect 15-20 tracks of a certain genre and style which are all 2-3 minutes long? Tom
Hey Tom!

Yes, this is an instrumental cue album for film/tv. I clarified with the library in regards to how many tracks it should be comprised of. They got back to me and said between 5-10. Everything else that I’ve been doing for them have been in the 1:30-2 minute range, so I’ll keep these cues at a similar duration.

Thanks Kolstad! I’ve been in contact with some people that have worked first hand with this library, and they had nothing but great things to say. They also have some really great credits on their website. :)

I’ve been cranking out stuff pretty much as fast as possible and I have about 7 cues completed for this project. Hoping that I can finish up another 2-3 over the weekend and have them a nice solid 9-10 track album within a week from the initial request.

Thank you all again for the thoughts and encouragement! You guys rock!

Just a quick update - I was able to finish the album and submit it today. Was a bit of a stretch to pull it all off within a week, but I figured you only get one shot at a first impression. I’ll sleep when I’m dead.

Somethings I learned:

- Metadata, stems and sub mixes, and compiling and submitting everything is TIME CONSUMING. I think I may try to incorporate as much of that as I can during earlier stages instead of waiting till the end to do it all.

- Good names, labels, and color coding go a long way for big projects like this. I wasn’t a major stickler on this stuff before, but I will be from now on

- For big projects, lots of small breaks really helps me a lot. My productivity drops after the first few hours working on something.. but a little 15-20 minute break does wonders to get me back on track.

Thank you all again for the input and advice! You guys are awesome. 8-)

You completed an entire album in less than a week? It takes me more time to properly tune my 12 string.

You must have already had a ton of stuff in the can I'm assuming. Congratulations on the deal! That's a real feather in your cap!

I think if I made an album in less than a week, it would all be filler. There would be a heavy emphasis on scat singing, lengthy solos on the triangle, and lots of cowbell!

Chris,

I had 2 tracks that were almost complete (minor tweaks needed... totaled less than a half hour for each I believe), and created 7 original for the listing as well. I just recently posted on of the originals on my soundcloud if you wanna hear. :)

I will say that by the time I got it all done, I needed a day to recoup and not do anything creative for a bit with my normal music time. I took that time to dig in to lots of taxi tv and some other youtube stuff for a bit. Needed a bit of a reset! :D
