Instrumentation Suggestions for Y190623XM, Christmas Original Song

Post by Merryband1 » Sat Jun 22, 2019 9:38 pm

Hi TAXI family!
I'm looking for some instrumentation suggestions for my song targeting TAXI listing Y190623XM, the Original Christmas Song. I wrote the lyrics first and I've been working on the melody and then the instruments. I got off the beat with the second set of sleigh bells, I think, but that's easy to adjust. I just can't decide what kind of instruments would sound good after the piano and sleigh bells stop. I thought about the guitar, but I just don't know if it fits the mood. What do you think? Strings, maybe? Thanks for your suggestions! I plan to finish the recording, whether I get in done in time to beat the deadline or not. :) I also plan to cut off the dead air in the beginning.

The Soundcloud player link isn't working, so I'll just put the link directly.

Looks weird, but this worked for me. It shows up as a Soundcloud Widget with a great big picture of my novel on it. :roll: Try clicking on the link part. :) Hope it works for you!

PS In case that link still doesn't work, here it is on my website.

Yep - that worked. A few peanuts from The Peanut Gallery - if the track were mine:
1) your vocal up when the instruments are accompanying;
2) bring in solo cello at the :47 mark;
3) fix the percussion that falls out of time at 1:20;
4) maybe a coronet or high trumpet complement part in at 1:39.
5) consider where a harmony vocal might add something.

For what that all is worth. Maybe a nickel?

Thanks, Peter! Great ideas! (Now if I only had a real cello... but I'll see what I can do with the ones in my keyboard!) I'll have to wait until the thunderstorm is over before redoing the vocal (unless I decide to keep this version), but everything else is direct from the interface, so as long as we don't have a power failure... I'll post the second version on the website once it's done. (I had to bring it from the computer where it was recorded to the laptop via external drive, because that one, while connected to the WiFi, wasn't connecting to the internet. Ah, electronics. :roll: )

POSTPONED. Re: Instrumentation Suggestions for Y190623XM, Christmas Original Song

It's thundering too loudly for me to continue working on my Original Christmas Song, so I'll hold it for the next listing. Frustrating. I know there will be more Christmas listings, probably in the near future, so I'm not giving up on it. I just need to manage my time better and keep an eye on all the listings every single day (not every other day), so I can have more time to get the songs arranged. Thanks again for the input, Peter! I added the cello and some slow tremolo strings and then I redid the bass line. Moved the sleigh bells, and got the piano on-beat. Oh, and the cello sounds okay. It'd sound better if it was a real cello, assuming I could still play one, but still... The internet's been intermittent all day, so who knows if I'd even have been able to upload it if I'd been able to finish. *sigh*

Goals for July:
  • read the listings
  • listen to the reference tracks
  • make sure there's enough time to compose, record, and arrange the song
  • compose, record, and arrange
  • double-check
  • submit to Peer to Peer for educated input
  • submit to the listing
  • Write
  • Submit
  • Forget
  • Repeat
Tired but resigned,
Merry
