Metadata Tagging software

Post by tresero » Thu Jun 27, 2019 6:45 pm

I admit it. I'm old school. I still have Ampex 456 tapes, and a ton of DAT, ADAT, and DA88 :)

I realize I'm guilty of not adding the metadata I need to my mp3's etc. Any suggestions? I mostly use Cubase at the moment and it seems that I'm either missing the function or it is very rudimentary in the tagging department.

TIA!

Jon

Cubase lets you add metadata. Depending on your version, you can edit the Codec settings in the export window, which also leads to the metadata information (ID3-tag for MP3, et cetera). The functions are there. ;-)

For MP3s, MP3tag is a handy free little tool.
Thanks! I'll dig into it. I have Cubase 10 pro

If you are on a Windows PC, you can simply right-click on the mp3 file name, select "Properties", and add metadata.

This will come in handy as the tag editor in Logic isn't very user friendly.

Got me confused Chris!
Logic is on mac, whereby Tag and rename is for PC. I use Kid3, and I've seen Amvidia tag editor. Both work on mac

You can only add a small amount of data in this way. I use some software called mp3Tag which has more fields. However I've had to add more fields which is a bit awkward, but if you follow the format as from the existing ones you can get your head around it. I've added fields for Contact telephone number, Pro membership, copyright splits, genre, sub genre, tempo, key, key words, moods, etc
