Hey Tom overall I dig it, fun little tune.CTWF wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2019 10:36 amHi everyone
I worked a little on a non-TAXI project recently: a dance track with vocals. Any feedback would be very much appreciated!
Once Upon A Time - I Want To Dance

(P.S.: One of the main hooks is by my now 6-then-5-year old... )
What's your tempo on this, feels a little sluggish for an actual club/dance track?
Can you goose it by +10% or so and still keep the vibe you want?
That's really the only thing that stuck out at me, while the song made me smile right away, to be honest it doesn't scream "jump up and dance" just yet - maybe a little after the 2 minute mark you had me nodding, and I'll go into proper convulsions if a track is really moving me, so yeah...
- How is the mix? (Besides some high-passing, I only EQed the final mix).
Good, sounds pretty clear for a first pass.
- How are the vocals/recordings?
Me likey.
- Reverbs ok?
Yes.
- Genre: What is it? Is it too unique?
You're somewhere in Electronica land.
- Does it feel contemporary, or does it feel like 70s-mystery-meets-Freddy-Kruger-meets-trap (thanks Matt VDB...)?
Sounds contemporary to me.
- Are parts too plain, or too crowded?
Actually no, I think you've got a good mix and balance of sounds overall. I always strive for less, so while there's some sounds there that don't necessarily need to be there, I don't think they're detracting from the impact of your mix.
- Is the contrast between A and B parts too big?
No
- Do the strings/French horns (kind of buried) sound okay?
um?
- Does it take too long before the dance part starts?
see above, honestly not hearing a true dance part in the entire track, sorry friend
- Anything sticking out like a sore thumb?
Nope, its a fun one, best of luck with it!
(I like your use of panning, well done!)
