So this is what my status is with ASCAP Membership status: Current

You were elected to ASCAP Membership on 09/01/2000. Your membership renews automatically on an annual basis.

The next period during which you may properly notify ASCAP of your intention to resign is from 04/01/2020 to 06/30/2020.

If you are eligible to resign, your resignation would be effective on 10/01/2020. This information may not apply if you have otherwise agreed that you will not resign from ASCAP membership for a specified period of time.

SO DO I HAVE TO WAIT TILL APRIL /2020 ?

RON :?
Yes, you have to wait until April 1st of 2020. Be patient and keep creating!

Yep, looks like you just narrowly missed your window of opportunity for resigning from ASCAP this year, Ron. You'll have to wait until next year now, and it won't go into effect until October 2020.

Just keep making music. Unless you've got thousands of placements generating revenue, including various vocal placements, it's not likely that you'll feel the monetary sting too badly between now and then.

I'm so glad I saw this thread. I've been weighing the pros and cons for each lately and really appreciate how detailed Vander was in everything. Thanks so much to everyone posting your input.
My 2015 album, Ferdinand, is on Spotify and wherever else you listen to music.

Is there a fund we can contribute a virtual cup of coffee too? Many thanks for sharing.

My BMI membership just went into effect this past quarter, so I'm not expecting anything for at least another two quarters at the earliest. But I opt to get all my payments the old fashioned way.... via hard-copy check in the mail, lol. So, I might be surprised and get a little treat show up in the mailbox next week. But it's much more likely I won't see any BMI money for at least another 6-9 months.

How did you do this quarter? Your switch happened earlier than mine.

Yeah, I switched in April and got my first check in June. This quarter was a little lower than last, but I can’t complain.

It depends on what BMI is able to pick up. You may get paid. Log in to your BMI account and see if you have a statement. They are already in Online Services.

Cool man, I'll reach out to you next week and let you know if anything turned up. Now you got me curious!

But, in a weird character trait of mine, I don't ever log in to my PRO's to find online statements until after I've opened up the hard-copy check. Odd, I know... but there's just something about the surprise and the ritual of opening an envelope that makes the whole royalty thing so much more exciting (for me).

I'll let you know what happens next week!

You're a wise and patient man. I get direct deposit and I start spending as soon as I see "amount pending" in my bank account. By the time you cash your check, I'll probably be broke!

Talk to you next week.
