Mixing Help (again :(

Post by tresero » Sun Sep 22, 2019 8:34 am

These are all live tracks, and I am wondering what you would change in the mix (trying to dial my new space in). I won't let you know what I think, just so I don't bias you.

As always, thanks in advance.

I'm no mixing genius, but I hear a lot of low-mid boomy-ness slapping around. Might be partly the reverb but it's making everything but the horns sound a lot farther back.

Right from the start you have sustained ringing drum tones that are out of key with the tune
Gate those drums and the mix will start to really wake up

Thanks! I was trying to figure out what that ring was. I've never gated a drum kit, so that will be fun to learn!

Hi,

The Center of the tune is way too cluttered....If that is a bass it is not defined enough at all....

I would restart your mix and build up from bass and drums, because the bass is not sharp...Too much overall reverb on the track is swooshing everything

Found the issues.

For some reason when I transferred from ADAT (these were recorded in Cuba, so you use what you have :), the bass got all distorted and weak. I also cleaned up the drums and percussion.

The new one is at:
