Mix Ears on this song please.

I've been working on this on for awhile and could use some Mix ears. All comments welcome.

I agree, a bit too much sub in the bass.
Your vocal always sounds great!
E guitar can come up and be a bit more pronounced. (I would double the track, go wide L/R, add a .23 Mono delay to one track to create width)
I do that to get E guitars out of the middle, right now your's sounds straight down the middle
Drums hit me as too midi at times
Dig all the vocals

Song has a retro 80's kinda feel to it?!? :D

Hi John,
Really enjoyed this one! It's so cruisy with nice dynamics and tasteful parts.

If it were mine  a few things I'd focus on

1. The vocal level sits a little high to the track. Turn down till you can hardly hear it to get a drum/vocal /instrument balance.
2.The snare sound could be better and the little fill to bring it in was sort of jarring.
3. If you mute the guitar you may have a better track. The tone as well as the panning/placing could be better. The tone is a bit boxy for mine. Some single note arpeggios or a hint of that with a little brighter tone and maybe a touch of grit could be good. I agree with Cass on the possibility of widening or doing something.
4. Width. I can hear you are pulling the instruments in to give the BVs width but I think you could spread them more.
5. The bass is boomy as mentioned.
6. The transition to the bridge is a little sudden.
7. The bass in the bridge is louder than through the rest of the song.
8. The BVs at 222 could do with a low EQ cut and or be set back with time based FX as they are close to the same note as the lead vox and seem louder than the main vox.

HTH

Thanks Tom, Cass & Len.

I just put a new mix up trying to implement these suggestions and some others (I haven't double tracked the guitar though Cass, that one is still a consideration).

Same link.

You don't have to double the track, just duplicate it! :ugeek:

That part surprises me a little, but maybe I understand wrong: Do you really mean the main vocal should hardly be audible?

Tom
Sorry it was a little confusing the way I wrote it. What I meant is to turn down the level of the whole song. It is a good way to get a quick idea of levels. I sometimes sit headphones on the desk and lower the volume. Shoot for hearing say the snare and vocals being audible with some instruments thereabouts as well.

Hey John,

Definitely like the 2nd mix over the 1st one.

The kick in the bridge is a bit big.

All the best.

Thanks Len.

And Casey, I'm the alternating cowbell diet - I only use it on every other song!

There's a brand new mix up. Any comments would be appreciated.
