Real Instruments???

Post by DannyWeber » Tue Nov 12, 2019 6:23 pm

Hello fellow Passengers,

Does this sound live or is it Memorex LOL? Sorry, it's an old joke but I would actually like to know if the instruments sound real or computerized???

I programmed all of this with MIDI and Kontakt 5! I’m not talking about Kontakt Scripting but I would love to get into that at some point. What I’m talking about is velocity layers and round robins.

It might sound foreign to some but I’ve been developing these Kontakt sample patches for 10 years or more!
I “manipulate samples” to create instruments that can play any MIDI file I feed to them, convincingly.

I’m a guitar player since I was 10 or 15yrs old but I’ve always loved programming MIDI since the early 80’s! With primitive sequencers, drum machines, synths etc.. I always knew this type of programming would be possible eventually.

I would really like to know what you think about this Carlos Santana Cover. Does it sound real?

Sorry for the long message but I wanted to fill you in on the hard work I’ve been doing for a long while now.

Thanks for your comments,
Dan

Go your own way! Out of necessity, drive, gumption, whatever.. don't let anyone tell you you can't!

I'm the opposite. I don't know diddly-squat about computer/MIDI stuff.
What strikes me right away, is it sounds so 'quantized' - i.e. NOT "Smooth" (see what I did there?)... like you'd play/articulate an acoustic guitar - which is my only reference point;
I do play some acoustic guitar.
Is your question & quest more about authenticating the TONE of the guitars?
OR - the entire performance aspect?
Sorry, Amigo - I wasn't convinced that this was music played by a live performer. :? 8-)

EDIT: it almost has a music-box quality to it, for what that's worth... or, like a player-piano kind of instrument - something automated.

Hey Dan,
I would also try more room/delay/reverb (whatever works best) on the solo instrument. That should help make things sound smoother right away.
Kind regards
Mathias

No it sounds fake to me especially the strummed part...the lead part you might get away with if it's mixed with real stuff.

I think I've fixed it now. I forgot some programming. Thanks for listening!

I thought it sounded cool, but not real. Would love to hear it again when you add some reverb, etc.
