Library asking for 30 & 60 sec edit??

Post by henryvan4444 » Mon Jan 13, 2020 10:54 am

OK so the good news is I've started to get tracks signed with various libraries. However, for one track the Library is asking for versions with a 15 and also a 30 min edit. Does this mean I have to give them edit points at 30 and 60 sec (i.e. redo the track...as the song doesn't naturally break at that time)? Or does that mean I give them 30 sec & 60 sec versions of the track that capture the vibe of the track?

Any guidance is appreciated! I'm assuming this is for a commercial.

Here's the track this applies to:

Thanks in advance!

I always try to create very precise 15s or 30s edits and never had any negative feedback. The way I do it is to create an exact loop in the timeline (starting from 00:00:00 and stretching it to the desired length, e.g. 15s) and I then drag it over different sections of the track until I find a section that seems best suited for the respective edit. I then fine tune that section so that everything rings out naturally as if the 'new' end point was the actual end point of my track. Sometimes that involves re-arranging parts but you will get there :D
Cheers,
Matt

Hi Henry and congrats on getting your songs signed!!

I just did 6 vocal songs for a library and they wanted 15, 30, 60 sec and stinger versions. Of course I had to do the instrumental versions to match and then they wanted "alt" versions of each version on top of that. Some of my vocal songs ended up with 25 alt versions... But.. I'm all for giving a good library everything they ask for.

What I did for my cut-downs was to take the final group stems and cut and paste them so they made musical sense. Nice build/arc, include the hook, musical or lyrical . It took a LONG time (I'm not tech savvy) but I'm happy with the results and they just appeared in the library yesterday.

I'm all about doing whatever alts and cut-downs a library requests within reason. It means more opportunities to get your songs used! Best of luck with yours! Best, John

Henry,

We're going to move this thread to Biz or General later today. The TAXI Success Stories forum is for specifics on success stories, not so much for questions related to success. Also, have you reported the actual successes here? Thanks for understanding.

Michael
