Modern hip hop instrumental

Post by JoeCurran » Sun Jan 12, 2020 10:11 am

Hi
Looking for some comments/advice on a trap track for the listing below I am working on.

https://soundcloud.com/user-999855695-2 ... t-mst1-wav

MODERN HIP-HOP INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a Music Industry Veteran that’s building a new Music Licensing catalog.
They’re looking for Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumental Cues that would fit well on a playlist with the following references:
WARNING: Some of the references have graphic and explicit lyrics. Listener discretion is advised.
“Haute” by Tyga ft. J Balvin, Chris Brown
“Panini” by Lil Nas X
“HIGHEST IN THE ROOM” by Travis Scott
NOTE: This is for an entertainment Industry Veteran who has several shows currently in production, and he needs a lot of music! If you’ve got this kind of Cue, don’t be shy about submitting a bunch for this request!
Please submit banging Hip-Hop Instrumental Cues with fresh melodies and rhythmically engaging drum beats. Add and subtract layers of instrumentation as your Cues progress to create dynamics and forward momentum, while sticking to the main theme. Any Virtual Instruments and Samples you use need to sound current, high-quality, and not dated.
Your submissions should be at least 90 seconds in length, and a little bit longer is fine. Non-Faded, buttoned/stinger endings will work best for this pitch. Do NOT copy the referenced artists or Songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Do NOT submit any material with unauthorized samples of any other artists’ music, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast Quality is needed.
This Industry Veteran get syncs ranging up to $250 per Instrumental Cue, depending on the ultimate placements.
This company offers a NON-EXCLUSIVE, 50/50 deal. You’ll split any applicable sync fees 50/50. You’ll get 100% of the Master rights and Writer’s share, and the Library will get 100% of the Publishing for any placements they generate. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to submit for this opportunity. Please submit as many Instrumental Cues as you’d like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI screener hand-picked by the Music Library Owner. All Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PST) on Monday, January 20th, 2020. TAXI # S200120HC

Thanks

Joe

Nice work Joe! You've definitely got that creepy warbly loop thing down. I'd beef up the kick plenty. It can be hard to mix with the 808 but if you sidechain a compressor from the kick to the 808, you can set it so that it ducks the 808 for a split second when the kick hits. Also, at the 1:12 mark, I'd let the track die out completely for a second so that you've got an edit point in there.

Thanks for listening Jeremy.
I had a bash at the side chain compression and beefed up the kick. Also changed the hats to something a bit more rhythmic, I tried it with a stop but it kind of lost the rhythm and momentum a little, looking at the wav it should be easy enough to get edit points.
Its not a natural style for me but really want to get it down as there seems to be a lot of listings for it. Let me know what you think if you get a chance.
Thanks again for the feedback.

Really like it! Love the effects you have on the hats, and the snare sounds great. Two comments: there are no edit points, you might try to insert one or two. And, the listing says 90 seconds, maybe a little longer. You are at two minutes, I'd cut out 30 seconds or so at the most logical music point. You also might consider 8 bars of a breakdown section where it's just kick, hats, snare and bass, no other stuff.

Great job!

Hi Paulie

Thanks for listening and giving feedback.
Good points there and will definitely take them into account.
I was aware it was two minutes so I will just need to wait and see what 90 seconds or a bit longer means.
Appreciate the time .

My experience has been "a bit longer" is no more than 10-15 seconds longer.
