Hello Kansas City, MO USA Taxi members!

Post by tonedimension » Sun Dec 22, 2019 5:03 pm

Hello Kansas City! Just wondering if there are any Taxi members here in the metro area? It would be really great to find some local folks to talk to, share experiences with and perhaps even collaborate on projects. Let me know and maybe we can all work out a gathering of some kind in a comfortable space somewhere in town and get to know one another.

Thanks!
Bryan...

Hello Heather and Dave! Great to hear from you both!

I'm not sure how many of us there are but it would be nice to meet, have a beer or cocktail, discuss the music and just generally get to know one another. Collaboration over long distances can be great but if you find a great match locally I think it can be even better. Anyway, the details are something to work out. I'd just like to get the local Taxi members in touch.

I attended my first Road Rally in 2018 and it was great but pretty overwhelming and a little stressful. I think seeing familiar faces at the Rally is very helpful, especially if it's your first one. I missed the 2019 Rally but am planning to get back in 2020 and I'd love to see familiar faces from KC in LA!

Anyway, thanks again for responding and I hope a few more folks will find their way and reach out.

I’m thinking there must be more than three Taxi members in KC. Come on now, raise your virtual hand. 😉

Hey Dave, I checked out your site and like what you are doing brother! Nice stuff in there. I really dug dug "No Way Out". Although you have it as a tension piece I sure could feel it as a song. Great little groove and movement.

Also dug "Down Home Slidin'". Man, I love to get my National or Dobro and any old electric in my studio and slide some myself. Some nice stuff in the Bluegrass lane as well.

If you don't mind me asking, how much success are you having in any one of the genres you have represented? I have tried several in the past couple years and seem to find the most success in either the tension-based instrumentals or something that involves me playing guitar like Americana or Rock, etc. I've had 58 forwards since joining in 2015 but the percentage really started to improve in 2018 and 2019. I did manage to get a couple of instrumental SciFi tracks signed early in 2019 but nothing else since. I have to say that attending the 2018 Road Rally really helped too. I couldn't get there in 2019 but it's on my list for 2020.

Anyway, always really curious to see how others are doing.

Hey Heather, I didn't mean to leave you out. Is there someplace I can check out your music? My sites are always a work in progress so no worries there if you are still working on getting it going. Maybe your Taxi member page?

Hey Bryan, I also listened to your music, very good my friend. My site definitely needs work, finding time to work on that right? Your site is really good, it's all right there without being distracting. I'm using WIX and a template for production music. I don't have my latest tunes on there either. I'll add my Sound Cloud link or if we can find each other on Taxi I'd follow you and listen what you have there.

"No Way Out" is incomplete in my opinion so if you think you could add some layers or anything to make it viable I'd love to collaborate.

I was a Taxi member in 2010 and got some placements with the Bluegrass/Americana stuff. Honey Boo Boo and Duck Dynasty were big at that time.
I should have stuck with it but I went back to playing local clubs and let the TV music drop off, big mistake. I'm not doing the band thing anymore and I'm back trying to get the TV music going. I've had a few forwards with the Blues Rock which is really my forte. No contracts yet.

It sounds like you are a keyboard player as well as a guitarist. If so, I have other tracks that I attempted to play midi piano but could use a real players touch. :D

I did go to the 2019 Rally, my first one, so much info! I did learn some but it's hard to take it all in. I may go again this year depending on all the things that could affect that decision.
If you think we could collab on some stuff definitely hit me up!
I'm glad you started this post, thanks man

Thanks! I feel like my stuff keeps evolving and improving which is all I can hope for really. I created my web site using Wix too. I basically threw it together a week or so prior to the 2018 Road Rally. Speaking of which, I know exactly what you mean about taking it all in. 2018 was my first, and only so far, Rally and I was completely overloaded and overwhelmed. Crazy, but great stuff and I learned a lot.

I've got some other stuff up on my Soundcloud page, which is a real mess BTW. Still, the "Monkeys With Weapons" playlist is stuff I've done with a few of the bands I was in over the years. Mostly blues/rock kind of stuff but later just more Americana/Rock styled things. Anyway, I'm trying to get that Soundcloud thing sorted out. I put a couple new things on my website playlist too, which links to Soundcloud. So much administrivia to tend to...

That "No Way Out" piece may be incomplete but I'm hearing something I like there. Seems to be asking to be a song. Not sure what you were thinking on that one but I'm noodling about here in studio this morning. Something familiar in the tension of that Bm G7 thing, At least, I think that's it. I'm working through a bit of a wicked cold so my ears are pretty stuffy. Anyway, the piano is definitely a bit on the stiff side but that is easily remedied I think.

Now, that being said, I'm not a keyboard player. Just a humble servant of the guitar. I do get by with some keyboard parts as long as I have time to work the midi over and get the articulations happening (or get a real keyboard play). Anyway, it's something to consider.

Also, just wondering what DAW you use? I'm a Logic Pro user but also have Pro Tools. PT and I grew apart over the years because the workflow just didn't suit me when I turned to more composing and no recording of bands. I'm happy to help with anything if I can. Seems like we share a bit musically so it might work. I do like the guitar tones on "No Way Out" as well. Real amps? Just curious. Six months or so ago I returned to a Kemper Profiler for my composing work. I profiled most of my amps and it seems to speed things up a bit for me. Just curious about what others do.

I also love doing acoustic-based stuff so maybe we find something there as well. I'm glad you responded to the post. I'll play with the basic track on "No Way Out", which is a cool title and what I think is either the hook or a part of it for sure, and see what I come up with.

Talk to you soon!
