I see a lot of recommendations on the web for good books to buy to understand the art/ science/ business of writing score music/library music....keen to know what people's thoughts are? Any books you recommend and why?

Get Dean Krippenhaen's Demistifying books.
They are great primers for Sync Licensing.
Also Mixing Secrets For the Small Studio by Mike Senior is a very practical guide for mixing in the average spare room like most of us have to.
