Review - Listing #S200222EM

Post by subinthompson » Fri Feb 21, 2020 1:23 pm

Dear All,

I am new to taxi.
I would be very greatful if anyone would be kind enough to review this piece.
I've made a couple of them. Below are the links:

https://soundcloud.com/subinthompson/re ... me/s-Qg6p4
https://soundcloud.com/subinthompson/ri ... ds/s-zJJRz

The listing is:
Lots of EMOTIONALLY POSITIVE INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a fast-growing European Music Library that's building a new catalog and is looking for a bunch of music in this style!

NOTE: We recently ran this request as a TAXI Dispatch Listing (#D200119UP), but the company didn’t get enough material. If you submitted to #D200119UP, please submit different material this time around!

They’re searching for Instrumental Cues that are in the general stylistic wheelhouse of the following examples:

Beautiful and Emotional Background Music

Storytelling Background Music

Inspirational Cinematic Background Music

Quoting The Music Library: “We need positive, emotionally uplifting piano, guitar, and string Cues. The kind of music you would hear if you were watching a reality show with a positive story to tell in a scene.”

Please submit well-composed Instrumental Cues that are emotionally driven from beginning to end. Your instrumentation should be organic-based, with instruments like (but not limited to) piano, guitar, and strings. Please make sure any samples or Virtual Instruments you use sound convincing and realistic.

NOTE: Having developmental “arcs” that make your Cues feel like they're going somewhere is a good idea.

Submissions should be about 2 minutes long, give or take. Non-faded, Buttoned/Stinger endings will work best. Do NOT copy the referenced music in any way, shape, or form. Use it only as a general guide for tempo, texture, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

This company offers an EXCLUSIVE deal, so please be sure the Instrumental Cues you pitch for this opportunity are NOT already signed with other Companies or Catalogs. Any sync fees will be split 50/50 with the Company. You'll get 100% of the Writer's share, and the Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher's share. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to submit. Please submit as many Instrumental Cues as you'd like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PST) on Saturday, February 22nd, 2020. TAXI # S200222EM

It would be great if this could be done soon, as tomorrow is the submission date

Thanks for your time!

Hello Subin,
Such lovely pieces you wrote!
I am not sure about the drum kit and the short strings in "Reading Time", the snare sounds very different as the cue progresses in terms of how is being hit, also the short strings sound a bit funky.
"Ride through the Woods" sounds much more consistent, perhaps you could try making "Reading Time" as much consistent as "Ride"?

Hi Marco,

Thank you very much for your valuable time and comments.
I totally get what you say about the snare and strings. I had added a pizzicato string section, which might be causing the issue you mentioned. Will look into that. Thanks.

Other than that, what do you think about my interpretation of the listing? Does the music stand true to what is listed?

My pleasure! However, it is still my opinion as an individual :)

The references have lots of repeated patterns, your pieces are more "free", if you know what I mean, but I think you are there nonetheless :)
