Hello Everyone,

I have recorded many many orchestral tracks for Television...Usually big action pieces.

About 8 months ago I recorded a more mellow orchestral track for a show.
It is below....called Wonderful Splendor.

Let's test your ears......which instruments are REAL and which are MIDI?

Here are the choices...

1 The 1st violin intro that also plays thru the entire piece
2 The piano that comes in at about :03 and plays thru the entire piece
3 The 2nd legato violin that also comes in at :03 and plays thru the entire piece
4 the 2nd staccato violins that come in at :17 and play thru the entire piece
5 The legato cellos and double basses that come in at :39
6 The legato cellos that come in at 1:00
7 The glissando harp that comes in at 1:27


Just put the number and M for midi and R for real
Like this....

Just remember...you will be highly criticized in public for your wrong answers!!!! ha!!!!

Hmmm. I would say the solo strings in 1:57 sounds pretty real but the rest I'm not sure. To my ears the attacks of some of the strings tend to be a bit inconsistent and volatile and this may either be due to different live recordings/overdubs mixed together with too little compression (probably with good intentions as it is a classical piece) but that makes it difficult to say whether it is live or programmed to sound live. Anyway, I would say the attacks make it sound less realistic than the piece could be and I would try mild compression. My five cents...
Really curious what the correct answers are!
