Probably sour grapes...But I hear so much of this and I just don't get it!!

One thing I've learned about why some of my songs are used or forwarded is one thing in particular, the simpler the song, the more it gets used. The songs I think are much better are passed over and the reason is, they might compete with what is being sold ( TV or Ads ). So I am trying much harder to write a more simple song and keep it much more universal. Anyway, just my 2 cents. I don't write cues, but it is much the same with whole songs.

That certainly makes sense if the song/track attracts too much attention away from the main message/dialogue/content - as you state. Good point.
