Oh Santa! For Listing # S200529CS

Post by LamarPecorino » Sun May 10, 2020 1:49 pm

I am thinking about submitting Oh Santa! for the listing below. Thanks for taking the time to listen and to comment.

https://soundcloud.com/user-155785959/o ... lMUB5nhVVM

ORIGINAL, HAPPY CHRISTMAS SONGS in All Styles/Genres with Male or Female Vocals are needed by a successful Music Licensing Company with tons of credits in HIT TV Shows!

They’re looking for festive, Mid-to-Up-Tempo Songs that could be found on a Christmas playlist with these references and other Songs like them:

“Santa Tell Me” by Ariana Grande

“Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” by Michael Bublé

“Underneath the Tree” by Kelly Clarkson

Please submit fun, emotionally upbeat Songs (no Covers, please) that convey a Christmas-y mood, style, and vibe. Your submissions should have solid productions, engaging melodies, and memorable choruses that will get listeners in the holiday spirit! Positive-feeling, well-performed vocals could be the icing on the cake for this request!

TAXI Tip: Little Christmas-y accents like sleigh bells, tubular bells, or glockenspiel could give your submissions some added Christmas cheer, but they’re not absolutely necessary. If you do use them, we’ve typically found that it’s best to not overdo them!

Lyrics should be consistent with themes commonly heard in Christmas music. Non-Religious lyrics will probably work best for this scenario. Fun, festive, warm, family-friendly themes typically get licensed the most often. Do NOT copy the referenced artists or songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for texture, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

This company offers an EXCLUSIVE deal. You’ll split any upfront sync fees 50/50. They’ll get 100% of the Publisher’s share, and you’ll get 100% of the Writer’s share. You must own or control 100% of your Master and Copyright. Since this is an EXCLUSIVE deal, please be sure the material you submit for this pitch is NOT already signed with other Libraries or Catalogs. Please submit as many songs as you’d like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PDT) on Friday, May 29th, 2020. TAXI # S200529CS

IMHO/Old-Guy ears:
appropriate for the listing - young/happy/snappy.
mix: swap the levels of the drums-to-vocal; maybe as much as 2db? i.e. drums backoff/ -2bd; vocal up +2db.
If that's too much/wide... maybe 1 each will do.
Good song.
Hope that helps.

Gonna be mix nit-picky... hoping to be helpful.
I'm hearing most of the stuff at either 9 - noon - 3 on the panning; (listing at different volumes, on JBL 305 monitors) -
with the horn parts coming in right on top of the vocals in the middle.
With 'holes' at, say 10:30 & 1:30... putting some of the backing instruments there, and away from the voices,
would open things up, while sounding more full at the same time. The spectrum, if you will.
The lead vocal, IMHO - could still be up in front a little more.

Cheers from Old Ears. :? 8-)

Nit pick away, Peter. I changed the drums and have been working with vocal track a bit. I'll listen with your suggestions in mind. I didn't change the panning from the previous mix.

Here is the latest version of Oh Santa. I didn't have the time to get feedback on this mix before uploading it for submission. If you hear something that needs fixing, please let me know over the weekend. Thanks in advance.

So "Oh Santa!" got returned because of the lead vocal. I have gone over through the lead vocal track with Melodyne and Nectar. I think that it sounds more polished without losing the innocence aspect of the song. If you have a few minutes to spare, I'd appreciate you giving it a listen and sharing your thoughts with me. Thanks in advance!

Well - to these Old-Guy ears - listening back at a pretty hefty volume (and lower/raising) - the mix sounds much fuller (i.e. no more holes)...
and other than a few spots where the vocal was just the tiniest bit 'crispy'... overall, it sounds very solid to me.
I'll be interested in comments "from other ears". :? 8-) :P
Liking it here, and hard to find faults.
HTH, Cheers,

Thanks, Peter. I know the "crispy" sections. The vocalist opened up in a couple of places and there's a tonal shift. I'm not sure that anything can be done about it.
