Getting a pro solo piano sound

Post by mattglickstein » Sun Jun 28, 2020 5:47 pm

Hi,

I've written some solo piano music in the past and I'm interested in trying to compose more music for some instrumental piano listings on Taxi. I use the Ivory II Yamaha Grand plug-in for all of my other work. Is there a certain plug-in that's recommended for solo work? Can I get a professional enough sound out of my Ivory plug-in to be competitive? I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions.

Here's a sample of my work with the Ivory plug-in:

For great sounding piano samples I use

The felt piano from Spitfire audio or Synchron Yamaha Piano from Vienna Sounds

If you checkout Spitfire, there are a lot of free instruments there in the labs section. https://labs.spitfireaudio.com/ - You will need the Spitfire player installed which is also free

For Vienna sounds you need to use the syncron player this requires SSD ro run -int won't install on non-ssd drive. I use an external SSD for most of my instruments.

Paul Howes (aka Reg) - Don't ask, unless we are at the bar.

"The greatest art in the world is the art of story telling" - Cecil B DeMille

I hope you music tells a story.

Hi Matt, enjoyed your piece, "Contemplation."

Some others to consider :

Spectrasonics Keyscape

Pianoteq 6 Bechstein (most real sounding of theirs to my ears).

Not to say that these are models of realism, but for some of them I actually used the Pianoteq, which has clarity, in the right hand, and the Keyscape grand (which sounds much better down low) in the LH:
