Posting song to Spotify after Exclusive Deal signing

Aloha!

This is Sean and Kyle Luster from the pop rock band "Red Light Challenge". We're two brothers born and raised in Hawaii, but we've been based in Boise, Idaho for the past 5 years and have been TAXI members for almost two years (although we haven't submitted music until this April).

We've been having a lot of fun writing and recording songs for TAXI submissions while we've been under quarantine (since our touring has been canceled), and we've been fortunate to have a few of them signed!

We worked on an original Christmas song for a non-exclusive listing, and we actually wound up loving it so much that we want to release it during the holidays this year, while still submitting for listings. It seems like a lot of the listings for Christmas songs are for exclusive deals, so we're not sure if we'd still be able to release the song (on Spotify for example) if we were to submit and have an opportunity to sign it.

Does anyone have any insight on the rules regarding releasing a song as an artist if it is signed to an exclusive deal? Also, what are some examples of resources you use when legal questions like this arise?

It totally depends on the deal offered by the exclusive library. Your best option is to get any exclusive deal vetted by an entertainment lawyer...

Thank you for the advice! We know not all TAXI members also post original music as artists on streaming services like Spotify, so we were just wondering if anyone who checks the forums happened to go through something similar. It looks like an entertainment lawyer is the main way to know for us to answer our questions for sure.
