Dear Passengers,
TAXI has been getting some emails and phone calls from frustrated members who want to know more about some of TAXI’s listings that have language like this in them:
IMPORTANT NOTE: This company offers an Exclusive deal, and is only interested in signing material from composers who have worked for libraries and licensing companies in the past and understand how standard deals work. If you don't have that experience and you don't know the drill on typical deals, then they politely ask that you don't submit to this request.
IMPORTANT! Per our client, your Submissions must NOT be encumbered by ANY other publishing, licensing, administration, and/or exploitation deals (whether non-exclusive or exclusive) including publishing/licensing agreements with CD Baby, TuneCore, DistroKid, etc.
NOTE: This company is NOT interested in composers that turn in 1 or 2 tracks every couple of months, they want composers who have experience writing full albums in this genre. They're only interested in signing material from composers who have worked with music libraries and music licensing companies in the past, and understand how those deals work. If you don't understand the drill on library deals, they politely ask that you don't submit to this request.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This producer has specifically asked that you ONLY send UNRELEASED Songs that aren't already commercially available. If you've already commercially released them, then they can't use them! This includes releases on Spotify, CD Baby, etc.
IMPORTANT! Per our client, your Submissions must:
NOT be encumbered by ANY other publishing, licensing, administration, and/or exploitation deals (whether non-exclusive or exclusive) including publishing/licensing agreements with CD Baby, TuneCore, DistroKid, etc.
Be 100% original – no soundalikes, Cover Songs, and no recordings with samples.
Quoting the Company: “Only artists/writers affiliated with ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and APRA-AMCOS are eligible to submit their music for this opportunity.”

Yeah, for me this will really be interesting to know more about, because it kept me from submitting to a listing last summer. Being a GEMA member I wondered what the issue could be as ASCAP, BMI, SESAC & Co. all have reciprocal contracts with GEMA, so it should not matter at all who gets the cue sheet. It should always end up with the right PRO and the broadcasters don't have any extra work with it. Or do they?

No extra work for them at all imho. They register the track as they normally do, and next to the writer's name they put the Pro and share. I don't see why it would make a difference whether it's BMI or GEMA or SOCAN. However, sometimes broadcasters have to comply with national content rules... and then perhaps it does make a difference? So it's a polite way of saying, US writers only... ?

Unfortunately, the question was not answered. At 1h 4' ML answers the question, but does not really get to the core of it why the listing request memberships with specifically named PROs. It was in fact not asking for a membership with a PRO in general, but named specific ones, excluding others. So probably we'll never find out what was really going on with that listing, and maybe @CTWF nailed it, that this was a polite way of saying "we only want to work with American writers".
