I upload an mp3 at the highest bitrate possible, which is basically indistinguishable from a wav. Also, I choose mp3s so that I do not end up using too much of the servers' storage

I upload 24 bit wav and I think they render down to mp3 anyway..it will take a lot of tracks to run out of room, I think Michael mentioned it in a QHH show.

Likewise - bandcamp, for example, only accepts WAV files for uploads; then, when & if someone purchases the track, they receive an mp3 download.
Your mileage may vary.
