Question about Canadian Composers
There are some current listings that mention that the songs have to be by Canadian composers only. I know this is because Canada has a rule about a certain percentage of music that goes over the airwaves has to be by Canadians. I'm part of a song writing duo that is half Canadian and half American, do you think we would qualify to submit?

Re: Question about Canadian Composers
I would suggest calling TAXI for an answer, as no one on this forum could state with any certainty what the conditions are.

I have not read about it in years, but here's your answer: An exciting Canadian Govt Website
From the site:
How does the MAPL system work? To qualify as Canadian content, a musical selection must generally fulfil at least two of the following conditions:
M (music): the music is composed entirely by a Canadian
A (artist): the music is, or the lyrics are, performed principally by a Canadian
P (performance): the musical selection consists of a live performance that is
recorded wholly in Canada, or
performed wholly in Canada and broadcast live in Canada
L (lyrics): the lyrics are written entirely by a Canadian
I'm actually a bit surprised, I thought one of the categories dealt more with the arrangement and production.
Bizarre laws. Welcome to Canada. =P
Hope that helps.
