Looking for TOPLINING? examples-music into a song

Post by funsongs » Mon Apr 05, 2021 10:09 am

Do you have music completed... but it's crying to become a song? Maybe I can help with that - as with the once-were-only-instrumentals on this
Soundcloud playlist - (use the link to hear more, and contact me via PM, if you're interested):

Nice!
We actually need help with a Blues Christmas song.
It needs some authenticity, in both the music and the vocals.
Here is the rough demo:

Thanks for checking out this post.
I will respond in kind, and take a listen to your demo, and reply.
Cheers,
Peter

Okee-doke... so, I listened to the full 4:20 :? 8-) length of this completed song.
Here's my first-impression response, questions, and ideas:
1) It's not really a TOPLINING thing you need/want - because you've got melody & lyrics already.
2) IMHO - the vocal is not bad... if I were PRODUCING the track - or helping you produce it:
a) QUESTION: are you willing hire a live drummer and maybe one horn player?
(I'm guessing those are mostly or all virtual instruments... yes?)
3) If I had the stems to work with for the mix, and liberty to HIRE a few players (at your expense) I would:
a) use my go-to drummer;
b) see who is available to put one live horn in with your horn ensemble;
c) I'd work with your existing vocal track - unless you want to HIRE my girl/singer;
d) maybe some BGVs in spaces would 'fatten up' the whole cast.

If any of that appeals to you, or if you have questions for me -
please contact me via Private Message (PM)... and let's continue the conversation.

Hope that helps.

I forgot to mention that I'm restructuring the song and it will be shorter, hahaha.
Anyhow, I wish I could hire people... I live in Nashville. Unfortunately, Covid has had me unemployed, so I'm just looking for people willing to collaborate and share credits until better times approach.
I'm really flattered that you think the vocals are good enough! I don't feel authentic singing Blues, though, and want to replace myself with possibly a male.
Thank you for your ideas! I'll keep you in mind =)

I thought the song lyrics were/are well-suited for a female rendering. It would probably lose most of its 'sassy' with a guy singing it.
I wouldn't change that part, IMHO - but making it shorter (maybe max 3:30?) was also a concern/idea I had.

I've got several friends/performers/first-call musicians & producer-people in Nashville.
Good luck.
