Meditation Listing

Post by AudiniAudio » Mon May 31, 2021 8:42 pm

Here's a stab at the Meditation Music listing. Although it is not like the references, the listing DOES say if it could be played in a yoga class then send it in. They also said light percussion would work. I've definitely heard this kind of thing in a yoga class. The Sufi court of Java didn't want to cave in to pressure from other Muslim groups to ban art, music, dance, etc..., because they loved their music so much. In order to save it, they tried to make the music conform to Sufi principles. I very much love the result, both of the Javanese courts (I've been to the Keraton and heard their gamelans played live), and the result of my effort here. Whatever the screeners and client think, I'll be using it for my own meditation sessions. The original is 15 minutes long but I've cropped it to conform to the listing. https://soundclick.com/r/s8hlha

Tried to visit the link but it did not work (502 Bad gateway error). Also, this listing is actually looking for artists, not just music submissions. Two points from the listing:

Quoting the Record Label: "We're on the lookout for talented artists with a heartfelt originality and uniqueness to them. The material must have an [emotionally] uplifting or soothing quality."

You’d be wise to highlight any licensing experience, fan base, or impressive sales/streaming figures you may have in your bio. If you’re a new composer and don’t have much of a story or track record yet, but you DO have an amazing sound and the compositions to back it up, they are still willing to give you a listen!

The link still works for me but there's more than one link Soundclick is providing so try this Javanese gamelan beastie. https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14257918

Here is one of my other gamelan pieces to show that I'm an artist in this vein. I do a lot of world music. All kinds. https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11504443

I've gotten my Thai gamelan in a library which then placed right away in a documentary.

This is another example of Thai gamelan. https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10385392

I've also got an electronica remix of that one.

This one is with a vocalist from India. Very relaxing. https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=2164581

I had the first Javanese gamelan set ever to reside in Korea which I donated to my professor of ethnomusicology Park Mi Kyeong an expert on the music of Korean shamanism at Keimyung graduate university where I studied towards a masters degree in composition. Currently living in Bali. Been doing this stuff a while.

Thanks for the new links, both worked for me. I think the instrumentation is solid, the gamelan sounds authentic.

With regard to fitting the listing, I don't think either of these fit. The three examples in the listing are very gentle, using lush pads with hardly any rhythmic movement. The two tracks you linked to are quite different and unrelated to the client's requirements. Don't make the mistake of trying to fit music you've already recorded into a listing... it is imperative that you listen to the examples provided and then read the details to make certain you are on target. I'd save the $10 and not submit these.

Sukawati Heaven started out great, was calm and relaxing, but then the tonality changed and I started hearing some dissonance. At 0:25 is takes a slight turn toward a tension or scary feel. around 1:30 it gets a little more dissonant. The repetitive F-E-F-E eight notes keep it in an almost children's tension/music box feel, which could certainly be useful but not for this listing.

Bebek Bebek is far too busy for meditation, especially when comparing to the references. Too fast, too busy, tempo changes, etc. It is very energetic and probably very useful for a different kind of setting, but not meditation.

Bebek Bebek and the extra tracks are not for their current listing. It's to show that I'm not a one trick pony in this style.

As far as Sukawati Heaven, the listing says if you'd hear it in a yoga studio send it in. I've heard this kind of thing before in a yoga studio so I'm sending it in.

I'll check out the tensions.

Check out the reference tracks, they provide the musical direction you need.

I heard the reference tracks, and then I read where it says if you'd hear it in a yoga studio send it in. I feel traditional instruments are more likely to be played in a yoga studio than artificial synths. We're going wholistic, non smoking, non drinking, non drugging, all natural, vegan, organic, Hatha yoga, Vipassana meditation, Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance. Their demographic will like this. I'm sure. If the screeners will let it pass and if the director will choose it may be a horse of a different color.
