Three Theoretical Cues

Post by AudiniAudio » Sat Jun 19, 2021 9:34 pm

I put some music together using the handy dandy cue recipe. How do you think I did? If you don't like world music as in Asian Underground or Bhangra, these are not for you.

I edited this post because I uploaded the Shanti cue with vocals which I decided against using.

Was hoping to get feedback on the structure and if the production was good enough.

Difficult to judge with no reference tracks and no knowledge of the genre.

A few thing I picked up on that I think would need to be fixed.

Shanti - the lead part suddenly jumps out of the mix, this is a no-no for library music as it's generally going to be in the background of a scene - It seems a bit of an odd mixture of ethnic instruments and blippy synth sounds, if you are going for a crossover I'm not sure it works. It's a bit short - I would usually shoot for 90s minimum and the tail is too long.

Kayroo seems like a better track , I think generally it would work and is the sort of thing I would expect from this type of cue but again it's too short

Chillout Fantasy is not bad but the lead sounds a bit dated to me and overall the track devoid of ideas, again it's too short. I have a track being released on a Library Chill Trap Album later this week, it's not a genre I've made many of but it's not that complicated if you reverse engineer the reference tracks. https://soundcloud.com/cosmicdolphin/em ... For Taxi I think you're better off working to the Listings , learning to make music that sounds like the stuff they are asking for and getting peer feedback against the references and you'll probably find more people will engage.

I agree Shanti is quirky, too short, and the tail is too long. I also like Kayroo better but as you say is too short. Yes, Chillout's lead is dated and could use more ideas. It's my first time making these beasties so gave it a go. Thanks for helping me steer a truer course towards nailing cues. We'll be focusing on Taxi listings soon enough.
