Forward -> POSITIVE, MOTIVATIONAL ORCHESTRAL INSTRUMENTALS

Post by cantilena » Tue Jul 27, 2021 6:19 am

Hey all! I'm excited to report that I got a forward for my track "Through the Fire":

https://www.taxi.com/members/cYEpu7s1Rw ... h-the-fire

Here was the feedback:

What I like most about this song:
Nice brass writing and effective string lines providing a nice rhythmic push.

I think you could improve this song by:
I wouldn't change the bass note at 1:03 - I get the leading there, but it took me multiple listens to come to terms with it. You likely won't get multiple listens from the next guy up the chain.. this is not a death stroke but something to think about.

I [returned or] forwarded this song because:
Nice sounding cue, good energy for this listing.

If you're reading this, I'd love some feedback from you. Do YOU think the bass note at 1:03 sounded odd or out of place?

Have a great day!

Congrats! And no, it didn't sound odd or out of place to me. Glad you got a forward. :D

Congratulations, such a lovely piece, and if you had not mentioned of the "odd bass note", I would never have noticed. Yet, it did not bother me.

Thanks so much for the response! I always like to get another set of ears (or two or three!) listening to my music. Everyone hears things differently. :D

Glad you liked it! Thanks for listening. I agree - I didn't even notice that particular spot. We'll see if I hear from the client!

Congrats on the forward Andrew.. really interesting cue!
If I may, I find that the brass sounded as if it was played by a keyboardist. Their voicing could have been treated differently, but that's really a detail. Having control over the separate instruments will give you more control over the modulation on each instrument.
For the transition between the parts, I would have personally gone for a break instead. But that's me!
Again, congrats on the forward!

Thanks for the feedback! I'm always trying for more realistic-sounding tracks, so I'll definitely pay attention to what you noticed.

I hadn't thought of having a full break there, but that might work. The samples they sent were more sort of continuous and through-written instead of trailer-type with drops and breaks, so I was trying to go with that sort of style.

Thanks again!

oh, I didn't mean trailer-style drops, with downers/risers or sFx.. just a hanging note, a sus2, or sus4 with a nice tail. Haven't had the chance to listen to the references, I only figured that this could be an alternative, if the bass note is a bit clashing :)

Oooooh, gotcha. Yeah, I think a sus4 could have worked in there too. Oh well - you never know. I've double-checked the odd time with clients to see whether they noticed the same thing the screener did, and they didn't, so it sometimes feels like trying to hit a moving target! We do our best. :D
