NOTE: We realize that these references are pretty different from each other genre-wise. We think you can get pretty creative in your approach, instrumentation, and mood; but an obvious, anthemic stomp-clap beat should be the base of your pieces.

Craft your Cues around a singular motif and mood, and create a sense of forward momentum and dynamics by layering instrumentation in and out as they progress. Please be sure your production is polished and any virtual instruments or samples you use are high-quality and fresh.

From this ref track I'm getting huge sounding distorted aggressive four to the floor stomps with claps on the 2 & 4....dirty aggressive melodic guitar part at 6s ( thinking it may be a bass ) vocal whoops, reverse cymbal at 30s leads to a dirty higher guitar riff..breakdown with syncopated cinematic drums at 47 ...at 48s there's a backing vocal that's been put through a bit reducer for the chorus/hook.

"London Bridge" by Fergie

Big booming kick drum overlaid with a siren type sound, a busy funky kind of top loop ...low brass - two parts panned left and right that kinda play off each other..something really low in the sub maybe an 808..hard to tell..it's got the obligatory claps and a fair bit of sing / swagger to it.

Less than a second in and I'm transported back to the 80's. The plucky synth sound ( nothing like this in the refs ) , the basic sound of the kick and clap is pure 80s drum machine stuff. The long legato around 13s is a very 80s trope , and the brass sounds straight up like something off an old Art of Noise record.

I gotta ask...do you listen to the references and pull them into your DAW session ? If so can you hear the vast difference between those tracks and your track ? I'm asking seriously because if you can't hear it then you it's going to be virtually impossible to produce what they want. If you CAN hear the difference then you need to understand why your sounds are not anywhere close. Do you break down the references and make notes about what they are made up of ?

There are various ways to capture computer sound. Google capture audio from computer

Then once you have an audio file, just bring it into your DAW as usual.

Don't use the same chord and/or melody pattern. Everything else is fair game. Have a go at copying a 4 bar section of one of the refs exactly side by side in your DAW. You will learn a lot.
