Hey forum folks

I have hardly been posting recently since I am so busy at my job that there is no time to spare. It's all good, but I'm already missing the music. 8-)

Anyway, I just read that a well-known large German-British library has accepted a track I put together for a Sound Design listing recently (braams and such). Since I hardly have time ATM, this was possibly the track I spent the least amount of time on in the 3.5 years since I have started producing. Since they don't want to hear samples, it was very useful that I have never spent a single dime on music software and samples, and therefore know a little bit about how to create interesting sounds from, essentially, scratch. :)

Most likely, this is going to be my 4th deal (ever). My deals so far:
1. Pizzicato piece (exclusive).
2. Orchestral hybrid (non-exclusive).
3. PD Christmas song (with vocals; exclusive).
4. Sound Design (exclusive).

ZERO money spent on VIs, plugins, DAWs, or production companies/studios.
Yes, money spent on TAXI and top-notch head phones.
I treat this as a hobby. Make of it what you want.

Tom

P.S.: This was not through a TAXI listing, but via a direct brief from the library. But how did I get into the library first place? By learning from this forum and hooking up with people on here. So...
Nice work Tom! And very diverse. Congrats!

what could someone achieve who really knows what they're doing?
If they really knew what they were doing they wouldn't follow your methodology.

This is great and very encouraging. Congratulations Tom!!!
By the way; What is your day job and how you manage to make time to produce music?

Great work! I've heard what you did with the Mozart, I know that you definitely have the ears on right!

...and it's very encouraging to know what you're working with, as I face similar HW and SW constraints.

Thanks, Alan - much appreciated!

I have to admit, I could spend some money on software, but then, it is such a rabbit hole the pluginitis, or how someone from downunder called it the other day. Where do you stop? It seemed easier not to start first place.

Tom
Of course. I imagine the constraints can come from business models, budgets, or (gasp!) sheer force of will. For myself, I can't bring myself to ditch a system that works simply to enable the temptation of throwing money into the hole...for now at least ;)
