any thoughts on this? "Moonlight Bay"
Not sure what this would be appropriate for, but we like it and would love to get some more objective opinions on the mix, vocals, arrangement, etc.

Hey guys -- I think you have a good start on this tune and it has potential. I'd say keep working on it, for sure, and hopefully the right posting will come along.

Not a bad song but if you write for sync you need to avoid place names otherwise the song can't be used.
It's got a folksy kind of vibe which isn't really heard much on TV but you could imagine in an indie film if done right. My main concern is it's suffering greatly from the fact that neither of you can hold a tune. So I would either find someone else to sing it or get singing lessons as it just ruins it for the listener.

I agree with Mark, the vocals aren't good enough for sync. Did you do any processing on it at all? You can brush up even a mediocre vocal with compression, single short delay, tad of reverb, some EQ, de-essing autotune... this seems completely unprocessed which isn't what people are expecting these days.
As for the sound of the instrumentation, I missed a low end. There seems to be a bass playing, but it is mixed so far in the back that its effect is completely gone. The guitar sound doesn't help cause it has a strong high mid focus as well.
The way the violin cuts off at 0:22 is way too sudden and harsh, like someone is pulling a plug or something.
I would say "Moonlight Bay" is generic enough to not be a place name.
The song itself is nice though, tender and intimate... but as I said before, you need to do a lot more work on a song; I'd say this particular one is only at 10% of the way or less to get to sync. As I know you, you get distracted by the next idea too soon. That's fine when you're just playing for fun and hobby of course, but if you want to get it placed you need to do a LOT more work on them than you seem to be willing to do. Expand in depth, not in width.
