Horror and Halloween Cues

Post by CEMundt » Fri Oct 22, 2021 4:04 am

Someone posted a thread on the demand for horror cues (sorry, I forgot your handle…), so I figured I’d start a brainstorming session. So, what kind of sounds or compositional techniques would you use?

Here’s a few of my thoughts:
  • sampling an out-of-tune piano
  • ambient drones (duhhhhhhh, someone has to say it)
  • some bitonality in half steps (ex C major and C#major)
I’m still kinda new here. I hope this is the right discussion forum.

glissando

artificial harmonics

trills on high-range notes

bass instruments in lower-range with augmented rhythms

march rhythms (2/2 .. king kong mickey mousing)

reference: psycho murder theme, or Bernard Herrmann in general (probably misspelled his name)

Ooh, glissando is a good one.
