For hire contract question

Post by bgusch » Wed Dec 01, 2021 11:55 am

Hi All,

A question on work for hire.
And I guess splits???

If I hire someone and they add their expertise to 4 songs or instrumentals in that one session,
do they need to sign 4 separate agreements, one for each song,
or can all the songs for that session be listed on one agreement?

If a library wants one of those songs, will that agreement be ok with them.
I have not done any collaborating in the past, but would like to expand my horizons.

I now have Sessionwire, and will try and learn how to use it, so if any of you
also are trying it out, or have experience with it, maybe we can get together.

I am enjoying being a TAXI member and meeting so many giving and talented people.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Although I can't see any reason not to put multiple songs on a single WFH agreement (not a lawyer!), I agree it's cleaner to use separate agreements. Also, the price paid for the various song/performers could possibly be different so on one agreement for multiple songs, you'd need a schedule listing songs and price paid.

I use e-signature for my WFH and collab agreements. There are a number of ways to do that, I've been using rightsignature dot com for years now. It does cost around $150/year, I'm sure there are cheaper or even free ways to do it.

Best,
:D Casey
