I got a forward! My first in 2 years---does it mean anything?
Hi!
I finally got a forward after 2 years. I also come with placements from my past but it has been 10 years since I have had a publishing deal (way too long ago) and my royalties are slowly dwindling!
I just upgraded to taxi dispatch.
Hoping I find some success !

Congrats! A forward means your music is of the quality Taxi feels it's clients would consider. Next step is to go write some more because the process is lengthy. You might hear back from the library in the next couple of weeks, you might not hear back in a few months, or you might not hear back at all. Hence the Taxi mantra, "Write, submit, forget, repeat!"

It means... You got a forward.
Seriously, congrats! It means you can make tracks that pass the bar. Keep at it!

Hi Tom,
I like your recommendation to margomaybaby that she also try to submit her songs to libraries directly but how does she get the contact details of the various libraries?
Thanks
Nigel

There's about 2,000 of them listed on Google - Many of them have a page about how to submit to them. Make sure to follow their directions as not every company likes to receive submission sin the same way.NigelEHarris wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 5:19 amHi Tom,

You could do a search for "music libraries" or check out MusicLibraryReport.com.
Another thing to do is find tv shows that use music in the genres you can deliver. Watch the ending credits and often you will see something like "Music provided by..." with the name of a few libraries. Then you can google those libraries, visit their web sites, check to see if they are accepting new composers, and then strictly follow their processes as Cosmicdoplhin suggested. But ONLY submit to them if your music is ready, otherwise you will burn that bridge. How do you know if your music is ready? Post some here in the Peer to Peer section for feedback.
Best of luck!

Joining Taxi is a great first step if you want to make progress in sync licensing. Many think that's all they have to do though. No criticism intended because none of us know what we don't know, but the main thing I would say is that we have to be willing to help ourselves too. By that I mean doing our own research. Making usable music to acceptable standards is vital, but its equally vital to educate ourselves about every aspect of the business that we can. Its fine to ask things here, and there's already a lot been said about most topics if you search the forums. Beyond that, and beyond Taxi there is a ton of free information available through searches, Youtube and other organisations connected with sync licensing, plus some paid services that provide information.NigelEHarris wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 5:19 amI like your recommendation to margomaybaby that she also try to submit her songs to libraries directly but how does she get the contact details of the various libraries?
Therefore, stepping out beyond Taxi (which can be done at the same time) is possible but the right answer for us as individuals is up to us to try and discover for ourselves. Alternatively, we might choose to work with collaborators who are already with libraries, so we find routes into those libraries them via co-writing.
However, we are all different and not all libraries are equal. Therefore, in doing research its worth checking out whether a library is active and placing music of the type we're making. Some libraries tell us how we can submit to them, some don't. Furthermore, Its not always easy to predict whether a library is a good fit for us (and it might take a few years before placements start flowing, or not), so its worth proceeding carefully. Basically though, we have to be willing to put a little bit of effort into more than just the music. These took just a few seconds to find..

I hope that helps, and good luck with your own research Nigel .
And to Margomaybaby, congratulations! If the forwarded track is a real good one that the library and show producers are hungry for it could be another nice addition to your royalty stream. That does happen for some, and I wish you well for that to happen here. As others have said though, its best to simply keep writing and submitting, especially now you've increased your opportunities and chances by using Dispatch. Go for it!

Congrats, Margomay! Keep up the good work, writing, submitting, forgetting, and repeating! And everyone has good advice here for you! Some I intend to take, too!
