For His Own Protection
For His Own Protection ©2014 Robert George BMI
Benny’s double facial mole looked like a coupla stink bugs
Copulatin’ nice n easy on a faded pink rug
As he stood there on the porch and slipped his key in all three locks
Well, his house had movie posters like Le Mis and Gone Girl
And a giant one of Halle Berry as a Bond Girl
And they watched him pull the pistols from a dented cardboard box
Bought ‘em at a shady Phoenix gunshow for defense
Crime was rampant, cops were dirty and it just made sense
One gun in his desk…the other in a kitchen drawer
He watched Nancy Grace and checked the padlocks on his door
And for all we plot and scheme and plan
Life ends up close to where it began
Joe was nervous…it was twenty minutes past eleven
And he’d told his Aunt Theresa he’d be home by seven
So he took a chance and quickly cut across a stranger’s yard
He ain’t like his brother…he don’t traffic on the dark side
Dealin’ and survivin’ in that ghettoland apartheid
Bein’ shot twelve times just made his brother scarred and hard
Benny thought he saw a shadow by his backyard gate
Fumbled for his desk and grabbed his brand new thirty-eight
Though ole Benny thought he barely nicked him in the side
When the paramedics fin’lly showed poor Joe had died
And for all we plot and scheme and plan
Life ends up close to where it began
There were months and months of sound bite quotes by Tavis Smiley
Twitter feuds between the Rev. Al and Bill O’Reilly
Cornell West got mad and threw a folding chair at Hannity
There were lotsa cheesy platitudes from Deepak Chopra
Soledad O’Brien rapped with Snoop Lion and with Oprah
Benny was acquitted in a cesspool of insanity
When a paparazzi snuck through Benny’s backyard gate
Benny’d fin’lly had enough and grabbed his thirty-eight
And he thought of guilt and life and how it all went south
Halle Berry watched him put that pistol in his mouth
Sometimes in the naked night
Comes a moment of reflection
He committed suicide
For his own protection
Now, Detective Scarn was always bummin’ smokes
Takin’ longer lunches…drinkin’ rum n cokes
And he loved his Cuban stogies
Foot long deli meatball hoagies
And horseradish on his corn on the cob
Ev’rybody’s got some life long private needs
Some guys like a six of Bud and Live at Leeds
But Detective Scarn liked Hooter’s
Usin’ precinct work computers
Browsin’ escort sites and porn on the job
He was prone to drunken anger…prone to fits
Had his testimony almost blown to bits
When that greasy, grimy bastard
Showed up half asleep and plastered
From a gin lunch at the Rabbit in Red
Liked to flash around them fifty dollar tips
For them buxom dancin’ girls with smaller hips
Had a dark n lonely sex life
Dumped by his religious ex-wife
Cos of his creepy habit in bed
He was payin’ through the nose for powder, booze and nookie
And the Belmont Stakes cost him ten grand with his bookie
He was scramblin’ like a cockroach up a toilet bowl of debt
Then by chance he saw his way up just as clear as crystal
He was dispatched to a house and found a hidden pistol
It was some poor sap’s whose swan song was a rhapsody in red
Scarn had thumbed a C-note for a snitch and got the word
There was gonna be a deal near fifty-third and third
So he waited near the dumpster by an old newsstand
Shot ‘em all and put that pistol in the dealer’s hand
And for all we plot and scheme and plan
Life ends up close to where it began
Then he took the dealer’s cash and stuffed it in his pocket
Didn’t see the dealer’s eyeballs twitching in their sockets
As he turned his back and headed down the midnight street
Well, the dealer raised the gun and shot him through the liver
Scarn lay writhing on the concrete in a scarlet river
As the dealer spit some blood and staggered to his feet
Scarn’s eyes stared at an eternity that’s free of debt
Slipp’ry fingers took the money and his cigarettes
Sirens in the distance as the dealer walked off slow
And he thought of street survival and his brother Joe
And sometimes in the naked night
Comes a moment of reflection
Maybe his kid brother died
For his own protection

Re: For His Own Protection
I get it now. You have two forum accounts. No wonder I didn't realise you were the same person. I remember now - the guy who didn't know who Robin Fredricks was. That was you.
