Forward Question
Hello-
Just curious. Has anyone had a song(s) that have been forwarded for a particular listing then rejected for a similar listing?

Re: Forward Question
Yes, and I suspect just about everyone else has too.
Listings can be similar, but not necessarily identical.
Check the exact wording and check the refs.
Also, some wise words on the topic....

Graham (UK). Still composing a little faster than decomposing, and 100% HI.

Re: Forward Question
I should say not only rejected bur ripped apart while have been praised from another screener. I know music is subjective but in this particular case the feedback was totally opposite .

Re: Forward Question
Yes, it happens. But remember... (1) Songs are reviewed from the POV of the listing and that client's "bar". (2) Screeners are human, not robots.
#1 above is the most important part. But expecting a 100% perfect world where humans are involved is not realistic.

Re: Forward Question
I have had this. Mightily praised by one with a Forward, and trashed completely as non-commercial with R from another. Ah well. Everyone has different ears and tastes. Some even like Brussel sprouts.

Re: Forward Question
Yeah this also happens with publishers, ad agencies and music supes too.
It's a good primer for the next level of the industry, and even above there, pitching to for major label stuff, it happens even more.
I had a song I worked on with a writing partner that at one time got bad feedback from Jeff Fenster (at the time he was head of warner music), APG - both Ben and Mike weren't feeling it. Ryan Tedder loved it, reproduced it, and it was recorded and released by Jordin Sparks ("I am woman" is the name of it). Sadly she kinda bailed on her carrier at that point. Even crazier part of the story is that Leona Lewis wanted the song, but the other producer that worked on it had a manager that was Leona's ex and she walked because she couldn't stand to have her ex making any money off of her!
It's how it goes! Pitching songs is a numbers game...and sometimes the reason people pass has nothing to do with the song.
