Lo fi retro lounge music? Would this music be usable if an appropriate listing became available??

Post by MJLeeman » Sat Jun 11, 2022 5:46 am

Comments and critiques are welcome on this track. I write music as a hobby, sometimes in response to Taxi listings, somtimes not. This track is in the latter category. My query is whether this music is at a standard where Taxi might consider it, assuming that it was in keeping with an appropriate listing.

Hey Michael! This has some cool retro lounge vibes -- nice work! I could see it being a fit for the right listing for sure. Sounds there is some clipping at times though, especially in the second half starting at around 1:03, unless that's a scratchy pad I'm hearing? Anyway, keep up the good work and hopefully the right listing will come around!

Cheers,
Doug

Thanks Doug

I will check the levels so as to eliminate clipping. Recently, I have started to learn about gain staging, so hopefully in the future I can eliminate this problem from the outset.

Cheers
Michael

Hi Michael,
It's cool but this is not Lo-Fi track, it's more of a funky EDM retro track. There is a TAXI listing Lo-Fi which I am sure you have seen so won't bother posting a reference on here.

Good luck.

Hi there Michael.

There is a Taxi listing (TAXI # S220620CH) expiring on Monday. Check out the three references in that listing for some good current examples of Lo-fi today. Your track is not really in that genre, lo-fi is all about interesting chord progressions and loops, along with things like tape wobble, vinyl record noises, mismatched tempos, crisp snares, etc.

Here are the references from the listing:
