Genre challenged

Post by SusanAnnNorberg » Thu Sep 29, 2022 6:40 pm

This is my first time in the forum. I'm hoping someone can help me figure out what genre this song is. I'd like to place it in the submission request for sad songs but I don't know how to enter the genre.

Congratulation. I like this song. I'm not really good in the genre bizness. But have you considered to produce the song as a country ballad?

It's very stripped back so in some sense it could be produced in different directions to fit different genres.

I would say ; Singer Songwriter ; Ballad ; Agree it's a little bit Country sounding

Good luck with the submission.

Despite of the steel-y sounding guitar, I do not really get all that much country. Singer songwriter, I suppose.

Thank you all for your input. I'm not singing this song. I hired a woman on fiverr to sing it.. I don't even like the way I sound talking :-( It's interesting the references to country because she was from Nashville and probably mostly sang country..

I hear country and singer-songwriter. The country might be influenced a lot by the singer's style though I think some of the lyrics lean country as well. It's a really good song but as you probably know, it needs a much better recording to pitch it for opportunities. How you produce it could tilt it, probably to either SS or country.

Best,
:D Casey

Wow thanks it's good to know. I'm new at this. Just started writing lyrics this past year. I know that I am way out of my league, but I do find it so enjoyable. My Christmas song made it to the compilation. So exciting!

I totally agree with previous comment - sounds good 'n Country to me.
If it were mine, I'd send it to Beaird Music Group in Nashville for their 6-piece studio band backing tracks embellishment.
Your capture of the guitar & vocal are excellent 'as-is', IMHO.
Good song, good luck with its future.
Hope that helps, sincerely:

This is definitely country IMO. To call it singer songwriter would be a misnomer. It's traditional singer/songwriter, but not current singer/songwriter, which is what they are referring to when they ask that type of music.

Can't believe there's so much to learn. Who knew there were this many genres. I kind of started this almost on a dare on Facebook. I like to write, and a friend started a Facebook page for people that like music, and I said I bet I could write a song. So I started writing it a few lines at a time on Facebook. Then I sent it off to Nashville demo factory and for my birthday my son made me a video for YouTube. I got very good feedback from everybody when I aired it on Facebook. But when I submitted it here, they liked it but told me it was 80s country and couldn't use it. Guess I've homework to do. Anyway this is the song that came out of that group in Facebook that led me here.
