I guess you're looking for some Rachels or Phoebes.

I think it's always been the case that when one artist has amazing success with a new style, many copy it and ride the wave. Look back to the 1960s at the British Invasion and all the Beatles-like mop top, electric guitar bands there were with similar music. I can't say whether or not it's worse now. My parents and grandparents said every song on the radio sounded the same while we, as kids, could easily differentiate the various bands like Eskimos and types of snowflakes.

I don't listen to much rap/hip-hop but those of us who don't will think every rap songs sounds the same. But fans of rap know the differences which are largely in the lyrics.

Trends are trends in music. And those of us writing for Film/TV will also embrace current trends as writing based on what's popular now is a big part of the whole thing.

Good food for discussion.
:D Casey
