Open Jam at the Rally

Post by rdance » Mon Oct 24, 2022 2:19 pm

Hey Folks,

Haven't been on the Forum in a LONG time, but just to let you know at Michael Laskow's request, I will be running the Open Jam on Thurs-Fri-Sat at the Road Rally. It is a fun a event and both members and guests are welcome. Players who want to throw together a band (or bring your existing group) are welcome. We will have a full stage with backline (amps, drums, keyboard, stage lighting, etc.) and maybe a guitar and bass or two. But be prepared, plan ahead, know your tunes, bring your axe!

There is also an Open Mic which is at another location on the second floor of the Westin, that is set up for singer-songwriters who accompany themselves with a guitar or keys. However, you can also do a solo or duo open mic thing at the live Jam.

We did the first (and last) live Jam in 2019 before Covid hit, and it was a big success, so I am excited to see what happens this year!

See you in a couple weeks! Cheers,

The Crawdaddy

I won't be there this year, will miss our breakfast.
I'm hoping Casey will perform this one at the Jam for you! :D

Hey Folks,

The Crawdaddy
(Richard Dance)
From a lurker in The Peanut Gallery, and a fan of The Crawdaddy's funky guitar chops - it was a pleasant surprise to see this post on the forums.
Likewise and ditto to Cass's comment - this will be the first year, for me since my first in 2015, missing the music convention in L.A.
Here's hoping for y'all to have some great new introductions to TAXI-ites who join in with your jams... or with whom you simply cross paths at the hotel.
Cheers to you and the rest.

Well I guess if the POV mandates don't change for Canadians by Sunday then I have to wait another year to attend my first one. :(

I am debating whether or not to bring my horn... lots of angst toward sax players in the pop world. ;)

I've got a medical situation where my upper lip loses functionality after about 30-40 minutes of playing, and I am unable to maintain a seal on the mouthpiece, making it impossible to play. So, perhaps I will lug my horn along and make a few cameos for the hip cats that still love the horn. :)

Paulie,

You better show up! We only let folks do two or three tunes before we rotate personnel...although you could stay up there as long as you like. It does get jazzy, bluesy, funky quite a bit, so you would have a blast. Talent just comes out of the woodwork.

I'm planning to attend, and would love to sit in for anything in the blues/jazz range.
