Video for new members: How To Read Taxi Listings

Post by Paulie » Tue Nov 15, 2022 5:36 pm

I'm revved up from the Rally, ready to create some content. I've got a list of ideas, and then a new listing came out today (Emotional Piano) that I thought would be an excellent example for a Taxi tutorial. In this video I read through the listing, then listen to the references while sharing what I hear along the way, while offering some practical and realistic advice. No fancy editing or effects, just me pressing record and sharing my thoughts. I hope someone finds it useful.

I have several pianos and all of them can sound great. I used to use the Native Instruments pianos, which one I used depended on the sound i was looking for. I used the Grandeur quite a bit early on, sometimes the Giant. A successful Taxi member has had plenty of placements using the Steinway Grand Piano that comes with the Sampler instrument within Kontakt. A couple of years ago I switched over to Noire, and I also added Keyscape. I find myself using Noire most often these days.

Paul, i would like to thank you for putting up all the cool videos. I have been watching them and learning quite a bit. Question I myself have been with Taxi for quite a long time I have some forwards and only 3 placements with two Libraries. Along the way life hit me lost both parents ,lost my job ,i am back teaching again .Your videos are so motivating thank you. I believe my strengths are in dramedy i also have some luck in tension. Question when building up ones portfolio should I just continue writing my cues I think I was trying to write by what i saw on the taxi listings. Also, is it okay if I tweek your letter and use it too contact libraries?
Kind regards, Ron ronnie 35 :)

Thanks for posting this Paul. Interesting to see you analyze the commonalities of the four references. Very informative.
