EastWest Hollywood Orchestra Opus sale

Post by jdstamper » Sun Dec 04, 2022 12:39 pm

A few more hours left for a huge discount on EastWest Hollywood Orchestra Opus edition.

Any opinions or experience on how this succeeds for orchestral realism? Taxi screener feedback? Forwards?

I know it's the "ear not the gear" ... but its best to have the "ear AND the gear" :D

10 years ago, EastWest was the pinnacle of sounds. Not so much anymore. I've been paying for the composer cloud subscription for two years now, and I never use it. Going to be cancelling this year. Hope this helps.

Thanks Jeff, the big sale is over, but there is still a significant discount, I'm still a little bit interested in it. Orchestrator looks like a fun tool.

But it isn't high in my list of priorities for awhile. I'm also not a fan of Composer Cloud as a whole, I don't think I'd use enough of the products to make it worth it, for me.

I own 6 other EWQL libraries, but they're getting old. Do you have any recommendations for Orchestral plug-ins in 2023?

I'm not really an orchestral guy, but I have heard great things about Spitfire...oh and if you have $1800 to spend on Kontakt Komplete 14, I'm sure you'll have plenty of top-notch sounds at your disposal. Seriously considering taking that leap.

At that price it must be the collector's edition

That's a lot of product

Spitfire for sure, you can even get BBC Orchestra Discover and LABS for free.

Thanks Vikki, I got BBC SO Discover early this year ... very useful for limited articulations, once I adjusted to some quirkiness in the player, at least with my set-up.

There are lots of positive recent reviews about EastWest Hollywood Orchestra Opus ... but doesn't seem to be that popular with Taxi members so far :?:

Today, the sale is back on again for the holidays ... EastWest Hollywood Orchestra Opus edition $299 https://www.soundsonline.com/

No, I don't work for them

Just wondering if there are any other opinions from the forum on the pro's & con's; the sounds, OPUS, or Orchestrator. Especially if you already own & use it.

One con is it requires nearly 1TB of storage which would suck up what's left of my 4TB SSD space. It's good to see SSD prices coming down all the time

I have the EWQL Composer Cloud subscription, and I doubted it as well until I watched Guy Michelmore composing and using a variety of virtual instruments, including EW. It's been the mainstay of my orchestral VIs since I first bought EWQL Silver & Gold some years ago before they came up with CC. I particularly like the brass (including the Wagner tuba). With the subscription you can download as little or as much as you want. You also get first access to anything new coming out so it's not a stagnant thing like buying an orchestra and that's that.

Thanks Vikki, good to know. I watch Guy Michelmore too, I might have seen that one.

I have EWQL SO Platinum which I still use for some things, and 5 other EWQL libraries.
