I disagree, sort of. :)

"Pop" is a very broad term.
This is a very good point, maybe I tend to dismiss too many listings based on the "pop" label. But just yesterday, they were all "pop", and today again, all of them are "pop", and they very much get under my skin... But i hear your general point though that many elements can combine and you can still express your original talents, albeit in a different way.

As a classically trained classic jazz saxophone player, I never envisioned that I would make most of my tv money from urban Trap and action/tension instrumental cues. My first movie placement was this year and it was a jazz-influenced string quartet arrangement. I've also had success with dramedy, which often combines light classical elements with hip hop. Taxi regularly has listings for trailers, piano-centric tracks, classic jazz, blues, etc. It is possible to peruse Taxi listings before signing up, I don't think a disclaimer is needed.
Wow, congrats Paulie! Pretty nice.... Good example how more and more fusions are happening all the time.

You are right that Taxi regularly has listings for all sorts of genres, which is why I've stayed around and really benefited from the membership and helpful people like you guys regardless. I just think a sort of "state of play" pie chart would be helpful for a more bird's eyes view

I just went through your profile, you have a lot of excellent tracks in a variety of genres. However, all of them fall under pop... you've got rock, country, blues, some other stuff. All of that could be considered "pop" depending on the context. :)
Really? They could all be considered pop? Thanks for listening, but the blues and rock could be "pop"?

Just for grins I counted up all of the current listings, there are 66 open at the moment.
  • 20 x pop
  • 6 x country
  • 2 x electronic
  • 3 x singer/songwriter
  • 7 x R&B/soul
  • 2 x Rap/hip hop
  • 13 x instrumental
  • 3 x Latin
  • 3 x world/ethnic
  • 1 x folk
  • 3 x vintage
  • 1 x funk
  • 1 x Adult contemporary
  • 1 x hard to classify
So yes, the largest category of listings is Pop, with nearly a third of them. But that means two thirds are not pop, unless you consider country, electronic, singer/songwriter, R&B/soul, funk and adult contemporary as Pop, which make up 23 of the 66. so, depending on your definition, there could be 43 of the 66 considered Pop. But this is all water under the bridge. :) Write to your strengths, Taxi is just one tool of many that can help composers get their music into libraries and on tv. :)

And from the "Good Timing" category, I just saw a facebook post from Taxi with a link to a list of their posts by category for the year. ;) There were 1,349 total for the year with 280 pop, but the biggest category being Instrumental with 317 (which includes a wide variety of genres).

I think it's constantly filled with awful Country Music requests which I dislike with a passion and wish the entire loathsome cheesy POS genre could be jettisoned into the bowels of Hades and everytime someone mentioned the word Nashville we were allowed to remotely tazer them to their knees.
But tell us how you REALLY feel!

I've gotta say Paulie... the requests for the past while have had a LOT of non pop requests... so I considered myself corrected! Thanks very much for your thoughts :-D

As been said, "pop" includes a wide variety of sub-genres. Some libraries even categorize singer-songwriter under pop. But there is Pop/Rock, Pop/RnB, Urban Pop, Pop/Folk, Dance Pop, Pop/Singer-Songwriter, Popcorn (kidding), and so many. :D Listen to the reference tracks on the listings.

So, if you get your pie chart what will you do with it? Will it drive you to do anything different or will you continue to do the same (in which case it served no purpose)?
