Archer & Dempsey newly joined members Synthwave/Synthpop
Hello fellow taxi members,
We are new here and just trying to get a feel for a direction we could take the production of future works. All of our songs are initially written singer-songwriter style with an acoustic guitar. We can gussy up our songs in pretty much any production direction, but for our initial three releases, we went with a synthpop/synthwave/pop kind of vibe. Our goal is to make quality music and do so profitably.
Any feedback, constructive criticism, or guidance would be appreciated! Also, curious what genres YOU would submit these songs to, if they were your songs.
I will link our Spotify Profile (currently have 3 tracks released):
https://open.spotify.com/artist/4gbXL3j ... Xfy_mLC8aw
and Youtube links for those not on Spotify:
Past Life - https://youtu.be/M0eyMUGy_Ic
Santa Ana - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiX9_HBNuWA
Summer Ain't What It Used To Be - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxbA35gSgSc
Thank you,
Nick Archer & Ian Dempsey

Hey guys,
My name's Dave Fox aka Young Coconut. Just thought i'd give my 2 cents, since I'm new to the community. Seems a little quiet in this promo folder. Anyway, I'll comment on Past Life since I'm listening to it right now. I don't know about profitability of such tracks, because I'm new to this world, but I'd say this fits into a certain kind of synthwave that I've heard. Not the super synthed out like Mitch Murder or something.. more like synth pop from the 80's.. like Johnny Hates Jazz type stuff, you know what I mean? Actually, I think if i heard this on acoustic, I might like it, but I really enjoy it a lot in this format. It taps into that well of 80's emotions in a way that acoustic guitars can't touch. In other words, give me my ballads like this and I love it all day, but if it's normal instrumentation, it just comes off cornier, probably because you can't get away with some of the atmospherics you are using here. Anyway, dig it, top marks for that track. I also have a synthwave band - Back 2 The Future, and we've done a couple of EPs. Check it out, would love to hear your feedback: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=O ... TVs4odQjFs

Hey, thanks for the response, I'll check out your link and I do understand what you are saying, synths offer an emotional pull beyond what the standard rock instruments can get away with.

First, thank you for telling me about Johnny Hates Jazz. I have heard some of this before but never would have found it. I think I thought it was Wham (but now I hear them they’re quite different) Great recommendation! I just streamed Daddy Issues; really like Low Value Male, Malbec Crimes, and Daddy Please. Playing Army At the Door now - I see why this has so many streams on Spotify. I like your bold melodic decisions and unexpected chord changes in general. Really impressed. You ever write music with vocals / lyrics? I can almost hear lyrics in some of these songs. I know the genre almost prefers instrumental music but I usually think music is most compelling with human voices. I think I had the same idea for the title Armchair Epidemiologist when everyone was an expert on Covid lol.

Wow, you’re prolific! I just found your Young Coconut cache! Really cool. I’ll be listening to this for a bit. Agree with you regarding multi-genre. Variety is the spice. Really like your progressive inclinations and how catchy all of this is. Great work!
