Feedback Request for Chill EDM

Post by davidagates » Mon Jun 05, 2023 2:39 pm

Hi Guys,

Following some very sage advise from the friendly folk on here I thought I'd upload my track hear to get you guys to give it the once over if you'd be so kind.

Always striving to imporve, always trying to get a placement, so any advice would be hugely beneficial.

Here's the brief *I've also copied the URL's of the examples next to this reference tracks, I don't think it copies the hyperlink over:

"SUMMERY" CHILL EDM INSTRUMENTALS and/or INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by an International Music Library with lots of great placements in Film and TV.

NOTE: We previously ran this request as TAXI Listing #S230503SM, but the Company is looking for more material, so they asked us to try again. If you submitted to listing #S230503SM, please send different material this time around.

This Library is searching for Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals (and/or Cues) in the general ballpark of the following references:

"Sunset Lover" by Petit Biscuit: https://youtu.be/4fQeaM62mOY

"Sunset" by Tobias Bergson: https://youtu.be/qu3H5ePMiSM

"Sail Away" by Møme feat. Ricky Ducati: https://youtu.be/Bf0Pwj-5nkQ

Although one of the references has vocals, please submit Instrumentals and/or Instrumental Cues only for this request. Some non-lyrical vocals (like vocal slices, "oohs," "ahhs," etc.) are okay to include, as well – just be sure not to over do it!

Please submit well-produced Chill EDM Instrumentals (and/or Cues) with a feel-good, summery vibe, and feel. Your submissions should have inviting motifs, grooving rhythms, solid arrangements, and slick EDM instrumentation in the general wheelhouse of the references. Please be sure your productions, and any virtual sounds or samples you use are high-quality and current-sounding. If you have tracks that could transport listeners to a mellow day at the beach, send them in!

Your submissions should be roughly 90 Seconds long (give or take) for Cues, and about 2 to 4 minutes long for Instrumentals (give or take). Non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings will work best. Do NOT copy the referenced music in any way, shape, or form. Use it only as a general guide for tempo, texture, tone, and overall vibe. Do not submit any material with unauthorized samples of other artists’ Songs, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast Quality is needed.

I'll put the link for the track on my soundcloud account below so you guys can have a listen, huge thanks in advance:

I think this is close to a forward. Some suggestions:

0:20 - I’d start the arpeggios pluck a little softer, maybe automate the EQ so that it fades in slowly.
0:40 - drop the arpeggio pluck sound for eight bars, let the changing guitar rhythm be the focus. You can bring it back in at 1:00, or keep it out and let the pads carry the mood. Maybe cut some of the high EQ during the pluck at 1:00 to make it sounds a little different.
Make the fade at the end a little quicker, At 2:07 there is an extra note that sneaks in… screeners might kick it back for that.

Good job!

I should have gone to bed really, it's gone 12 and I've work in the morning, but I couldn't let it go without trying your suggestion. Absolutely spot on! Have re-edited those elements and it does sound more varied and interesting.

Oh, and by the way Paul, I watched the whole of the video that you made on dissecting tracks for making library music. Absolutely cracking, got a like and a subscribe from me!

Excellent! I think it sounds like a forward to me. The only other change I might suggest is adding an edit point, totally optional, I doubt it would get returned for not having one. But you can give it a try, perhaps insert a rest on beat 4 right before the 1:40 mark. Play the four G 8th notes then hold the F# for all of beat three, leaving beat 4 silent. | G-G G-G F# - |. (singing the edit point measure would be "ti-ti ti-ti tah rest")

Excellent work. :)

Ok, will do. I am trying to get myself into the habit of adding edit points (without them sounding too ham-fisted if that makes sense).

Thanks again for all your help!
