Feedback for Tropical House Cue Needed

Post by JLB333 » Sun Sep 17, 2023 2:09 am

hey all, I've made a playlist with two versions of the same cue :
https://on.soundcloud.com/2a1qi

This was written for the TAXI Listing: # S230917TR " Please submit well-crafted Tropical House Instrumentals and/or Cues with great, emotionally upbeat energy! Your submissions should have super catchy motifs, energized and danceable rhythms, exciting drops, and an overall uplifting sound. Tropical-inspired modern House instrumentation that's in the general ballpark of the references will work best. Please make sure your productions are polished, and any virtual instruments or samples you use are high quality and not dated-sounding "

main reference for me is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkQPgp_vSyk

main difference between these two versions is :
- a B part at 0:32 in V1 where a kind ob bell/marimba is playing a B theme
- a B part at 0:32 in V3 more focus on rythmic chords and some ambient layers

I would love to know which one you prefer most please ๐Ÿ™.
+ is the ending button at the end sounds really like an ending button???
Thank you so much and have a great day ;)

I think's it's a good house track, I don't hear much " tropical " though . I prefer V3 but I would have liked to listen to the other references as well. It's usually better not to make our track too similar to just one reference track but to find the common elements that they all share and use those. So maybe the other references had a more trpoical vibe that is missing ??

A couple of other points, there aren't really many obvious edit points, there's one around 1:33 with the little pick up but I think you could use one earlier in the track as well.

Secondly the there seems to be too much low end in the mix. Much more than in the reference track and it sounds out of balance here in the low mids.

The button ending could maybe be built up to a little more and then ring out a little longer. Let us know the end is coming and make a statement with it.

Hey Jean

I agree with Mark. For Tropical House you need some Island elements (mallet instruments, pan flute, guitars, organic percussion, etc). However i think you have a good beginning. Just need to incorporate those elements.
