All of the reference tracks are just backing tracks.

Should I include a melody instrument in my submissions or just make smooth jazz backing tracks with no melody?

I'm going to submit mine just like what they sent us. I think they're basically just backing tracks as you say, and this library needs more of them.

So I'm not going to add any solos since every reference didn't have any.

I may be wrong, but that's how I'm approaching it personally.

Yeah, I asked headscreener about that at the Rally. The three references are literally backing tracks (instrumental karaoke). You will need to have some sort of melodic stuff going on to get a forward. I'm still debating on whether ot not to submit today... it's only for $150 buyout. Mimnus the $5 submission fee.
