Art for EP

Post by jesseh » Fri Jan 19, 2024 5:09 pm

Hi All,
I am getting ready to release my first EP and am looking for artist that could do an album cover-like piece of art. Does anybody have experience with and can recommend an artist that won't break my budget?
Thanks,
Jesse

Can you elaborate, Jesse?
What's the genre/title/concept of the music that would be represented?
Are you looking for photographic images, hand-drawn art, graphics?
Some idea of what you want would be helpful.
Also - the style of 'jacket' - if you're releasing CDs: will you want/need layouts for all of the credits?
OR - what format(s) are you planning to use to promote the EP?

Hmmm, good questions. I guess what I have in mind is a hand-drawn image that would be used as an image to be associated with each track for online rather than a CD cover. Like the front side of an album cover or CD jacket. Title is "It Takes The Heart", genre is a blend of singer/songwriter and indie pop with country, blues and rock influences.

You've got a title - does that mean each track follows that theme for the most part?
If each track has it's part & personality related to the title: now you're seeking an image or artwork for the title of each track?
OR - the one piece needs to be inclusive of each 'vein' - pardon the pun: but maybe that's an image right there.

Sorry to be overly inquisitive, but having a clear goal described would help in creating the kind of artwork/image that you think connects with each track.
Sort of like posting an image for a track on Soundcloud or Bandcamp that reflects the song, rather than a repetitive photo of the artist for an album collection.

Just trying to be helpful.

So the title of the EPis the title of one of the songs (the one that seems to garner the most and best reaction from those who have heard it). It was written early on in the pandemic and has to do with how people cope with difficult times. The other songs, as it turns out now that I think about it after reading your response, are love/relationship themed and thus fit the EP title as well. This was unintentional but serendipitous. I am thinking of a single image for the EP that will be used for all of the songs in the EP, rather than a unique image for each song. It could reflect elements of each song - I hadn't considered that - but I would like it focused on the title song. I see an image of a heart as a focal point in my mind.

I appreciate your help, you are causing me to think more deeply about this than I had. Are you a visual artist as well as a musician? You seem to have some experience with this (which I appreciate you sharing!)

I guess most people with low / no budget would use one of the many excellent AI image generators now.

I had no clue that such a specialized application existed, much less enough to warrant reviews. I will go do my homework. Thanks for the links, much appreciated!
